Exxon: Gulf spill won't change deep-water drilling approach
Source: Dallas Morning News

Exxon Mobil Corp. won’t change its approach to deep-water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico or elsewhere around the world in the wake of the BP accident, company chairman Rex Tillerson said after his annual meeting Wednesday in Dallas.

“There have been more than 14,000 deep-water wells drilled, the vast majority of them successfully,” Tillerson said. Until the facts about BP’s actions prior to the fatal accident and devastating oil spill – the size of which Tillerson said is not surprising considering the risks related to drilling – are fully investigated, it’s too early to say what effect it will have on the industry.

...

The world’s largest energy company projects oil will remain the planet’s primary energy source through 2030 and likely beyond and isn’t intending to change the balance of its reserves from this strategy. Its acquisition of Fort Worth-based XTO Energy Inc. will make Exxon the world’s largest natural gas company by reserves, but it won’t significantly alter its mix of energy.

Exxon has lent equipment and consulting expertise to BP, which on Wednesday was attempting a “top kill” technique to plug the spill that involves injecting material down the gushing well. Tillerson said that’s the strategy his team would advise BP to try at this moment. If it fails, a “junk shot” approach – stuffing items down the well in hopes of stopping its flow – is probably the logical choice, he said.

1. Sounds like 100% Palin-grade stupidity
Those stupid, stupid fucks.

They won't "learn" until we're all dead -- but hey, at least they'll have more money in their useless wallet.

2. Exxon should keep its mouth shut and its head down.
Because my first thought is to lop it off.

6. "I've played Russian Roulette 14,000 times with very few mishaps!"
Dammit, is there some sort of unwritten rule that corporate execs have to be both stupid and evil? Why can't we give power to some intelligent people for a change?

7. I doubt very little will change as a result of the Gulf spill.
These corporations laugh at the outrage of "the little people". They have your legislators in their back pockets. WTF do the people have? You going to throw out your legislator in the next election? No worry, they'll fund another corporate crony for you to vote for, and their media outlets will help ease your mind by convincing you that this new candidate is really 'on your side'.

Corporations to America....New regulations? Compensation for damages?

Congress to America re: big oil...We will take the steps necessary to ensure this never happens again, and BP will pay, not the tax payers (is the camera/mic off?)

12. Since when did the oil companies start admitting peak oil is real?

"...oil will remain the planet’s primary energy source through 2030..."

Just a few years ago they were claiming oil was in infinite supply. :eyes:
