The Obama administration has unveiled a new national security strategy, saying armed conflict should be a last resort when diplomacy is exhausted.

The document puts constraints on ex-President Bush's concept of pre-emptive war and calls for better co-operation with China and India.

It maintains the desire to destroy al-Qaeda, but also highlights home-grown terrorism for the first time.

It offers Iran and North Korea "a clear choice" on their nuclear programmes.

The document also advocates innovation, economic stability and prosperity as essential to America's wider security aims.

Speak softly but carry a big stick is far better than bomb, bomb, shock and awe 'diplomacy'.

But I can already hear the rising banshee song coming from the right. And The Dick Cheney must be busting the veins in his temples to get on the talk shows. I bet he doesn't though. The timing isn't good for him with this oil thingy going on. Hahahahah!!

Maybe Obama thinks the timing isn't good for Cheney too!

3. Words are mere promises whether in speeches are on paper. CIC Obama can begin rapidly withdrawing
troops from Iraq and Afghanistan to prove he can be believed.

8. The diplomatic intrigue between India and China
Whatever the immediate environment, I have always intrigued by the continued latent aggression between the two countries, when I came across 33% discount on India and China: The Battle between Soft and Hard Power By Prem Shankar Jha, I could not control myself. The most interesting part is while the rest of the world seems resigned to the rise of India and China, the author doesn't agree.
