Obama steps up fight against oil spill
Source: AFP

GRAND ISLE, Louisiana (AFP) – President Barack Obama Friday stepped up the battle against a massive slick lapping the stricken Gulf Coast, vowing never to abandon those caught in the worst US oil spill.

Tripling the manpower already feverishly working to protect the southern US coastline, he pledged "to continue to do whatever it takes to help Americans whose livelihoods have been upended by the spill."

Clad in hiking boots and with his shirt-sleeves rolled up, the US president toured a fouled Louisiana beach, picking up tar balls to examine them, and said his administration was involved in a "historic response" to the disaster which has already spewed millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

His second trip to the region since an April 20 explosion tore through the Deepwater Horizon rig, 50 miles (80 kilometers) off shore, came as BP continued its complex "top kill" maneuver to plug the leak

4. From the article:
He said 20,000 people had already been deployed to contain and clean up the spill, with 1,400 National Guard activated across the four states under threat and nearly 1,400 vessels plying the contaminated seas.

6. It isn't a question of inaction
There has been action since the first day. The issue at hand is scope.

9. He spoke volume's when he said he comes from a state that holds the sea sacred. I think it took him
seeing it personally to understand the magnitude of the situation. I just wish he had real people in EPA, DHS, Interior, MMS, BLA and every other enviromental, land & sea management that we as taxpayers are supposed to be getting our money's worth from, you know, the civil servant positions. Kick the heads out and get disciplined people in there to kick ass and take names and fuck the Republicans who try to hold up their appointments. I try not to cuss on the internet tubes but you know, fuck 'em, fuck 'em, fuck 'em, fuck 'em.

10. The First Step
Is knowing what is happening. To date that has not happened. At least we do not know.

What is the situation?

Where is a description?

That is required as a first step!
