Venezuela nabs Colombian drug lord
2010-05-30 11:00:00

(EFE) Colombian Carlos Ojeda Herrera, wanted in the US on heroin-trafficking charges, was arrested in the northern Venezuelan state of Anzoategui, said Interior Minister Tarek El Aissami.

'President Hugo Chavez has issued an order to inform US authorities immediately about this arrest and proceed with his immediate deportation,' El Aissami told state-run VTV television.

'We will proceed (against Ojeda Herrera) in the same manner in which we have proceeded in recent years against (other) capos: arrest them and speedily (extradite them to) the country that is asking for them,' the minister said Saturday.

'This is one other indication, another example, of the Venezuelan government's commitment and will' to battle the illegal drug trade, even though the US does not acknowledge that effort in its reports, he added.

1. I wonder how the USA media will spin this.
If it is covered at all, there will be some negative twist about Chavez.

Drug production

Between 1993 and 1999 Colombia became the main producer of coca in the world along with cocaine, and one of the major exporters of heroin."{j

6. Good. Hugo is doing the right thing.
Drugs are responsible for the misery and death of millions of people, everywhere.

The people that distribute death to the world are the enemy of all.

10. .That's kind of simplistic.
Those same opiates are some mighty fine pain relievers.

And probably more people die from alcohol than heroin, but I don't call Anheuser-Busch "the enemy of all."

12. You cannot use heroin 'responsibly'.
Billions of people on this planet use alcohol without being addicted.

No one uses heroin on any type of a regular basis and not become a slave to it.

13. 10% of adults account for 60% of alcohol sales
The alcohol addicts buy the majority of the product.
And while heroin chippers are rare, they do exist.

7. What if... and I know it's a horrible option in a lot of ways... but
What if everything was legalized and regulated (That does not mean advertise especially harmful products, that's one area where regulation will come into play)?

There has NEVER been a drug free culture, in the history of the world (at least I'm pretty damn sure, but please feel free to correct me cause that would be good news...). It's time to realize that, and take the money and power out of the hands of CRIMINALS, and get rid of this huge black market that perpetuates bloodbaths of innocent people, and corrupt agencies like the DEA.

With correct and unbiased (key f***in' phrase for any drug czars that might somehow read this) information and education, people will eventually (yes, it will be eventual, this cannot be a next day thing) not partake in things that will destroy them. And the things that do not harm and even help people (Everyone, but Californians especially know what I'm talking about.) will be able to thrive as products that help our economy and a prosperous society.

I know this is an idea that will create a lot of backlash and an incredibly politically toxic one...

But something has to change.

11. It's probably the least bad option.
Especially compared to a prohibition that cannot stop drug use, but can cause all sorts of other problems.

9. He was probably the CIA's afghan connection
You just know they are profiting once again from the boom in heroin poppy growth in Afghanistan. Since that is where most of the raw heroin comes from, Herrera could be a South American connection for their drug for arms operation.

Yeah just speculation, but stranger things have happened. We'll see just how eager the US is to try him.

14. you can bet we won't like this.
We will probably blocade Hugo for this lawful act. How dare he seek to extradict to the US one of its biggest drug enemies. Another coup is on its way.
