China offers billion-euro loan for Iran projects
Source: afp

AFP - Beijing has offered a loan of one billion euros (1.2 billion dollars) to fund projects in Tehran, a report said on Sunday, in a sign of increased Chinese participation in the Iranian economy.

Iran's Fars news agency, quoting a senior official from Tehran municipality, said the loan would have a repayment period of three to four years.

Several Western energy companies have left Iran amid the increasing possibility of a new round of UN sanctions against Tehran for pursuing its controversial nuclear programme of uranium enrichment.

They are being replaced mainly by Chinese and Iranian firms.

1. Inevitable
They're filling a vacuum using their substantial reserves - loaned and repayable in either Euros or maybe even oil.

6. Wholly unsurprising.
Iran is critical to China's energy infrastructure plans. If you look to all intergovernmental loans China has extended in the last 12 months, as well as infrastructure development agreements, that are, say, over $500 million, you'll notice a fun pattern.

Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan.

We're not in this picture:

...and we're not going to be.

10. It's not quite accurate to call the municipality of Tehran a terrorist organization.
That may be why no one but you is complaining.
