Fisherman files restraining order against BP
Source: cnn.com

New Orleans, Louisiana (CNN) -- A fisherman who was hospitalized after becoming ill while cleaning up oil in the Gulf of Mexico has filed a temporary restraining order in federal court against oil company BP.

John Wutsell Jr., is asking BP to give the workers masks and not harass workers who publicly voice their health concerns.

Wutstell, a shrimper, said he was paid by BP to use his boat, Ramie's Wish, to clean up oil that has been gushing into the Gulf since an oil rig sank about 40 miles off the Louisiana coast, gushing an estimated 19,000 barrels (798, 000 gallons) of crude a day.

In an affidavit, Wustell wrote he started experiencing severe headaches and nasal irritation on May 24. Over the next few days, he also developed nosebleeds, an upset stomach, and aches.

4. A restraining order is all he's filing for?
He should be filing a bazillion dollar lawsuit against them, considering all the damage they've caused to his livelihood.

6. Why is BP doing air quality tests? Why isn't the EPA or a contractor hired by the EPA
doing air quality tests? Why are we allowing BP to hide their criminal activity, confiscate evidence and contaminate the crime scene? Where is our government? Speeches by President Obama and a Coast Guard kowtowing to BP are NOT enough.

WE NEED OUR ENVIRONMENT AND OUR PEOPLE TO BE PROTECTED FROM BP CRIMINALS. I thought the President was suppose to protect American citizens? Not throw them to the wolves to die from BP's poisons. Instead our justice system and the federal government stands around with their hands in their pockets, giving pretty little speeches, and counting the bribe money they will be getting from BP.

Where is the federal government? When BP refused the order from the federal government to stop spewing their poisonous dispersant, there should have been someone from the EPA tracking the poisons.

7. For the same reason they were allowed to come up with the bogus 5k barrel/day figure
It will help them in any future civil or criminal cases.

10. i don't understand why bp would be actively telling workers NOT to wear masks.

12. They could make that claim anyway.
Obviously BP figures that pretending their are no health risks attached to cleanup will be cheaper, in the long run, than dealing with lawsuits filed later by those who beome ill. Disgusting.

17. It makes no sense
even the four hour hazmat course that BP sponsors for free delineates what type of PPE must be worn for specific activities and most of the info you have to study on that is on the govt's OSHA website. Even beach cleanup or well weathered oil you must wear gloves and boots.

the fact that it makes no sense is completely unsurprising, barely noteworthy.

BP cares not for people, only their bottom line.

15. "gushing an estimated 19,000 barrels ... of crude a day"

The ridiculously low spew figure (the real figure is likely five times that) indicates CNN must be on the "BP is one of our advertisers" bandwagon.

20. no, BP is hampered by the same directive that has kept them from stopping the
accident from happening in the first place; if it doesn't profit their stock holders they won't do it. This is why, if left up to BP, the gusher will never be fixed and the clean up will never happen.
