Iowa Republican (Rep. Steve King): Barton was right to say BP suffered 'shakedown' at White House
Source: The Hill

One Republican lawmaker said Monday he agreed with Rep. Joe Barton's (R-Texas) apology to BP.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said he thought Barton was right to call the Obama administration's effort to force BP to create a $20 billion escrow account to pay out claims to victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill a "shakedown."

"I think Joe Barton was spot-on when he called it a 'shakedown.' That's part of this administration's process," King said Monday on the conservative Laura Ingraham radio show.

"If you look at all they have nationalized during this administration — some started during the Bush administration — it should tell you, they want to swallow up as many Fortune 500 companies as they can," he said.

2. They should put all the Republican supporters of BP
on a boat in the middle of the oil spill and throw them overboard.

4. So it was a shakedown? So what?
That's what they should be doing. BP deserves to be shaken down.

5. At least King is truthful in expressing the real Republican ideology of corporate supremacy

over "We the People's" government and in turn over the American People, and not like those sniveling Republican cowards dishonestly trying to distance them selves from Barton's position; because it was a little too candid in explaining where their true sentiments lay.

Perhaps if King is reelected he will propose some tax breaks for all the trauma BP has went through?

Thanks for the thread, Ed Barrow.

6. Give the guy some credit: He's honest about being a total Jerk!
Obviously, helping people in the Gulf states violates the free market system! I hope that's the Republican battle cry this fall!!!! Staunch Defenders of the corporate right to pollute and get away with it! Perfect PR positioning!

it is the entire party.

17. They want everyone with a claim to have to hire a lawyer and sue
So that BP's army of lawyers can clog up the courts, and battle everyone to the death, knowing that most individuals don't have the resources to engage BP in a long-term legal battle, especially while they've been stripped of their livelihood. And every time someone DOES manage to win a judgement, they'll cry about how trial lawyers are ruining this country, and then launch appeals and stonewall any sort of payment. It's almost uncollectible if BP dug in their heels.

They also want to give BP the chance to spin off their various divisions to protect them from judgment and just leave some sort of holding company with no actual assets to be the legal defendant, and then just fold up that tent so there can be no collectible judgments against them.

Republicans call this "The Rule of Law."

11. Lets give King the boot NOW
Can you believe this guy?! First he's insinuating Obama is a racist, and now
he agrees with Rep. Barton that we should apologize to BP for expecting them
to pay for their own mess? Even Barton apologized for his comments,
realizing how ridiculous it was.

Here's what I think, I think it's time to give Steve King the boot. I'm
running against him in Iowa's 5th District and could really use your support
to stop this guy. You can make a donation right now at
www.MattCampbellForCongress.com/donate and it only takes two minutes.

Help me get rid of Steve King, November 2 can't come fast enough.

15. For real? I don't know anything about you, and no longer live in IA,
but, if I could, I'd vote for you. Hell, I'd vote for a dead tree frog if it were running against King...and it would do a better job if elected.

So, good luck! (not implying you're a dead tree frog, btw)

18. Welcome to DU Matt...
I wish more congressional candidates would come here and read what people are saying. I can't vote for you (not in your district), but my parents definitely will. King needs to go!

20. Who is worse?
The entity who tries to buy a vote or the feckless congressman who sells their vote?

I have no love for either but the group or person trying to buy a congressman wouldn't have any success if so many public officials didn't sell themselves to the highest bidder.

22. Well, that's how
Corporations "shake down" the government. Give away enough cash to candidates and they start to feel entitled. All elected officials depend on that cash for reelection so they're going to make damned sure it keeps coming.
