15 Caribbean nations demand U.N. probe of Aristide's claim

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (AP) -- The 15-nation Caribbean Community demanded Thursday that the U.N. General Assembly investigate ousted Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide's claims that the United States forced him from power.

Caribbean leaders are "still upset and uncomfortable" about the manner of Aristide's departure, and made that clear while U.N. special envoy Reginald Dumas spent two hours listening to their debate on Haiti, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview.

"We looked at the circumstances surrounding the departure ... We are prepared to discuss the possibility of identifying exactly what were the circumstances," Douglas said at the close of the first day of a two-day summit.
