House Ethics Panel Reviews Tentative Rangel Deal: Source

A U.S. House of Representatives ethics panel is reviewing a tentative agreement to settle charges against Representative Charles Rangel, a congressional source said on Thursday.

The source said the panel may need at least a few days to decide whether to accept the accord negotiated by attorneys for Rangel and committee. Rangel's fellow Democrats have pushed for a deal, fearing that a trial could hurt them in the November midterm election.

He handed the decision to the Republicans... and you know they want it as an election year issue.
