Emanuel Lends Meek A Helping Hand
Source: Cnn

Washington (CNN) – Rep. Kendrick Meek is getting some help from the White House as he bids for the Democratic Senate nomination in Florida.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel hosts a fundraiser for the four-term congressman Monday night at a private residence in Washington.

Meek faces off in Florida's August 24 primary against billionaire real estate investor Jeff Greene, who announced his bid for the Senate just over three months ago. A Quinnipiac University poll released last week indicates that Meek trails Greene by ten points, with 35 percent of likely Democratic primary voters undecided.

A Democratic source says the fundraiser with Emanuel was scheduled before recent reports that some African-American lawmakers were urging the White House to get more involved in helping Meek's campaign.

I rarely say this, but...Thanks, Rahm.

1. Meek will also have a "prominent role" in a FL Democratic event where the Prez will be attending..
from the Politico..

Embattled Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-Fla.) wants more than just to play a “role” at a Democratic event in Florida headlined by President Barack Obama later this month. “Meek was told he’d have a prominent role and he’s expecting the president to strongly reaffirm his endorsement,” a Meek campaign source told POLITICO.

The comment came as the White House confirmed the congressman will be at the Aug. 18 event, after notices for it listed some special guests but not Meek. Sources close to the White House insist he will be involved.

The news about Meek's participation came as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) sent an e-mail on Meek’s behalf this weekend, insisting both he and the president are behind the candidate. "Make no mistake about it, I am supporting Kendrick Meek for U.S. Senate in Florida, and so is President Obama," wrote Reid, who strenuously denied having talked with Gov. Charlie Crist, the frontrunner in the race, about caucusing with Democrats.

3. While having Meek in the Senate is obviously the perferred option
If it's turns out to be a Crist-Rubio matchup, I hope Crist does caucus with the Dems, just to stick it to the Republican Tea Party.
