Terror backlash hits Bush's votes
The damning testimony of former terrorism adviser Richard Clarke has left the President's team in disarray as their approval ratings begin to fall

Republicans fear the devastating revelations about their failure to see al-Qaeda as an imminent threat before the 11 September terrorist attacks have seriously dented President George Bush's election campaign.

At the end of a week of hugely damaging publicity surrounding the allegations made by Bush's former anti-terrorism chief, Richard Clarke, Bush's rating has taken a dive in key opinion polls.

(snip)

However, many top Republicans privately said they would soon seek to move the campaign on to different issues as they admitted to the damage done by Clarke. 'It will blow over. We'll move on to something else,' said Charles Black, a Republican senior advisor.

(snip)

And worse is to come. In a few months former diplomat Joseph Wilson, will publish his book, an account of the build-up to the war in Iraq, called The Politics of Truth. Wilson last summer accused the White House of ignoring evidence in its efforts to show Iraq had WMD. The White House responded by leaking the identity of Wilson's wife, an undercover CIA operative.

"However, many top Republicans privately said they would soon seek to move the campaign on to different issues as they admitted to the damage done by Clarke"

What other issues does Bush own? Being strong on terrorism was his domain. I guess Bush still has the fundie thing going, but that won't cut it in a presidential race.

23. So true ! These issues (lies) are their bread and butter.
+ We are for the oppressed white man!
+ We will restore christian values to this country!
+ We will run this country efficiently like a business!
+ We will stop these wacko environmentalists from destroying our economy!
+ We will stop that liberal ACLU and allow police to do their job the right way!
+ We will not engage in useless diplomacy and wasteful nation building! *Well, they can't use this lie anymore, so it's morphed into:
+ We will not engage in useless diplomacy and instead will use the military as our foremost tool of foreign policy!
+ We will stop these liberal judges from destroying the Constitution!

And the idiot freepers lap it up like the dumb dogs they are. They fail to see the republicans are nothing more than modern day Tories, wishing to restore monarchs and government by the rich.

18. will they EVER take personal responsibility for their fuck ups???
That's another line that needs to be pushed:

taking personal responsibility, admitting they made huge, major mistakes...

I don't expect to see it though, and that is actually good because I think people are seeing that these guys are immature and irresponsible, that they cannot and should not be trusted with the powers of the presidency.

20. Remember, Michael Moore's movie will be out soon too.
No telling what else.

If the theft of Kerry's FBI files are tied to the RNC, the bottom will fall out. A FOIA request should be made now for Kerry's FBI files. If it is denied, then that would be an indication that they are freaked by something in that file.

28. just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!
I wouldn't get complacent-now we have plenty of evidence that they sat on alerts and cut funding and basically let 9/11 happen-they could just as easily let something similar happen and declare martial law and cancel the election. At least one official-it was either Garner(first proconsul) or Tommy Franks(ex cent-com) who said that the "experiment with democracy" would be over if we had another mass terror event. Certainly the planners are out there and they only get better at it. I read some of CLarke's stuff that he wrote when he was leaving about cyberspace terrorism-that could be just as devastating as the bombs-the right moves could shut down transportation, air traffic control, communication, hospitols etc cause train wrecks-think about when the computers go down in a business these days. I deliver mail and I have seen huge law firms, massive construction outfits, government agencies-grind to a halt when the "computer is down. We have to concentrate on educating and organizing the population so the future doesn't depend on one person or party. People have to develop critical thinking skills and a sense that they can formulate opinions and don't have to defer to the "guy everybody else likes. This will be hard with the new rote test style of school and lack of access to Higher Ed, but we also have to STAND UP for teachers because there is a movement to PURGE teachers who don't parrot the right lines.
