Oil giant Valero has dropped another $3 million into a ballot measure that would suspend the state's greenhouse gas emissions law, AB 32. The contribution was made to the Yes on 23 campaign Friday.

The oil company has now contributed more than $4 million to the Proposition 23 campaign. Other oil companies, including Occidental Petroleum and Tesoro corporations, have given large donations to the Yes on 23 effort.

"It just shows that Texas oil is more concerned about their profits than California jobs," said Steve Maviglio, a spokesman for the No on 23 campaign. "It also illustrates that this measure is an out-of-state production."

Its corpro-populism in California with oil companies funding Proposition 23 to kill laws designed to tranistion California away from fossil fuels, and Republican billionaires and millionaires Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina running as pro-corporate populists. The best democracy that money can buy!

1. Thanks... I won't buy from them any more.
There is a Valero station very close to where I live, but I won't go there again.

3. Global Warming .... the oil industry is willing to kill us all for their profit -- !!
Capitalism is based on exploitation -- suicidal exploitation of nature --

You can have an economy based on trading -- seashells -- you don't need dollar bills

or the pounding down of natural resources making us all sick!!

4. The initiative process in California is not only crazy . . .
But has been hijacked by deep-pocketed special interests (and rich bigots and just plain nutters). It leads to bad laws that have obstructed good governance at every turn.

As an experiment in popular sovereignty, it has failed spectacularly.

5. Prop. 23 will lose. They should stop wasting their money.
The Gulf crisis taught us here in California a big, big lesson. We do not want that kind of environmental disaster here.
