Prop 8 Judge to Issue Ruling Thursday on Starting Same-Sex Weddings Again
Source: Variety

Judge Vaughn Walker's staff says he'll issue a ruling on Thursday morning on whether same-sex nuptials can begin again in the wake of his ruling last week striking down Proposition 8.

Walker had issued an immediate stay in the case to give him time to decide whether to put marriages on hold pending an appeal of the case.

If he decides to lift the stay, gay ceremonies could be performed again. But proponents of Prop 8 say that they would appeal any such order to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals or even the Supreme Court.

1. It would be a way to get the 9th Circuit to get started on this
And I fear it would play into the hands of Ted Olson, who I fear has ulterior motives. The faster the case moves through the 9th Circuit, the faster it gets to the current composition of the Supreme Court.

I fear that is the reason that Ted got involved with this. A leopard doesn't change its spots.

2. I knew the conspiracy crowd would chime in eventually.
The victory over Prop 8 is really a massive defeat in disguise!

3. It's not a conspiracy
I only suspect the motives of one individual, not a bunch of people acting in concert to secretly deceive others.

What do you think Ted Olson's motives are?

4. I take him at his word.
I think he is probably a libertarian/conservative type and most of those types think the government should keep its nose out of whom gets married to whom.

5. You have way more faith in him than I do
Anybody that fought that hard to defeat Gore over Shrub in 2000 is beyond reform, even if his wife died on 9/11. If anything, that would make him even more reich wing.

7. Huh?
What the heck are you talking about?
Ted Olson is only one-half of the Ted Olson and David Boies team.
Olson and Boies were adversaries in Bush v. Gore, but they are on the same side this time.
If Olson's motives were not up to stuff then Boies would have known it long before now!

9. No one can truly look into another's heart
but I believe that the only reason that Ted Olson is doing this is to make sure that the SCOTUS considers this issue in 2011 or 2012 rather than another four or five years down the line from that, when perhaps one of the most conservative members of the Court might be replaced by a liberal.

Bad Supreme Court decisions end up taking awhile to overturn, and I think that's what Olson wants as his legacy. You and David Boies might think he's on the side of the angels here, but I feel differently.

6. Regardless of what you think of Olson

He has been a defender of rights.

He argued in front of the SC against federal sentencing guidelines and for the right of reporters to keep sources confidential.
