Tamil migrant ship not boarded: military

Conflicting reports have emerged over whether Canadian officials boarded a cargo ship believed to be carrying hundreds of Tamil migrants off the B.C. coast.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, Public Safety Minister Toews said personnel from HMCS Winnipeg boarded the Thai vessel MV Sun Sea after it changed course and started heading toward Port Alberni, B.C.

Toews said "the Winnipeg attempted to hail the Sun Sea several times and, after establishing communications, the vessel declared that it had refugees on board."

But senior military officials told CBC's James Cudmore that the migrant ship had not been boarded as of 6:30 p.m. ET.

We are all going to hell in a hand basket.

It may become an election issue as elsewhere. Seems that we can't separate church and state.

We're firming up our positions. As the sea rises, there will be more refugees and fewer places to take them. And then, finally, no one to take them. When millions are knocking on the door, the doors all close. It won't help much, or for long.
