Obama takes a swim
Source: Politico

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — Whether or not he would wade into the water became the question hanging over President Barack Obama’s overnight stay on the Gulf Coast.

Obama answered it within hours of his arrival in Panama City Beach, when he took his daughter Sasha, 9, out for a dip to prove to the nation’s skeptics that the Gulf of Mexico is safe and clean despite the millions of gallons of oil that flowed into it over the past four months.

It’s exactly the image Florida officials wanted: the president and his daughter in the water. The two of them swam at Alligator Point Beach, an area near the restaurant where they ate lunch.

Unfortunately for the reporters traveling with the president, the White House took control of the photograph of the outing.

5. I saw video
on the news with him telling reporters he was not being photographed with his bare chest showing
because of all the places the photos from Hawaii turned up....front covers of mags, etc.
I guess a reporter asked again, please, and Michelle piped in...and said absolutely not.
This is from memory....not direct quotes.

9. Yes.
========
Obama and Sasha spent about an hour and a half on Panama City Beach, in the water and lunching at Lime's Bayside Bar and Grill.

There the president, the first lady and their daughter shared fish tacos, chicken fingers, guacamole and a burger at the open-air restaurant on a long pier, which was in walking distance to the Obamas’ hotel.

12. I wonder if it was Gulf caught fish
Here in New Orleans, many restaurants and grocers - who used to boast that their seafood was locally caught - now go out of their way to assure consumers that the seafood did not come from the Gulf.

13. Indeed.
We are in MN also - about 100 miles south of Canada. Weather has cooled considerably tonight - 50's.

14. My mama always said
Just because someone does something, it is no reason for you to do it. If your friend jumped off a cliff would you follow? Now swimming in the Gulf may be a metaphorical "cliff" but I'm still not going to follow. My common sense tells me it would be foolish. I think if he really wanted to make his point he should have taken that swim off of Grand Isle, Louisiana - closer to the devastaion.
