Blackwater founder gives statements in fraud suit
Source: AP

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — A lawyer for two self-described whistle-blowers at the former Blackwater Worldwide security firm says she has taken a deposition from the company's founder Erik Prince.

Susan Burke says she met Monday with Prince in Abu Dhabi, where he moved earlier this month.

Prince was deposed as part of a civil lawsuit alleging Blackwater repeatedly billed the U.S. government for excessive or inappropriate expenses.

Two former Blackwater employees, Brad and Melan Davis, allege the company — now known as Xe — sought reimbursement for a prostitute for workers in Afghanistan and strippers in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

8. There's nothing in the the State Department's 'Treaties in Force' indicating...

an extradition agreement between the U.S. and the U.A.E.

http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/143863.pdf

There is an agreement for extradition for those accused by the International Criminal Court, but that doesn't apply to Prince.

The Emir of Dubai Sheikh Khalifa could probably order Prince back to the U.S. if he wanted to, but why would he?

There is also no income tax or sales tax in Dubai, and it's currency is pegged to the dollar, so all of Prince's ill gotten gains retained their value in the move.

Yeah, he's a real bastard alright.

3. Everytime I see that he moved to the UAE it rubs me the wrong way.
I would wonder how the republican nuts against Arabs take this but I'm sure in their distorted minds they can justify everything. Since Xe contracts out to any country I suspect they'll be killing Americans soon.

4. Is the Blackwater/Xe fraud case different from this one?
Edited on Mon Aug-23-10 12:32 PM by jtrockville
... snip ...

The violations included illegal weapons exports to Afghanistan, making unauthorised proposals to train troops in southern Sudan, and providing sniper training for police in Taiwan, the newspaper said on Friday.

... snip ...

Paying the fines will allow Xe to continue to compete for government contracts, the New York Times said.

... snip ...

However, the settlement does not resolve other legal troubles still facing the company and its former executives and other personnel, the newspaper said.

Those issues include the indictments of five former executives on weapons and obstruction charges, a federal probe into whether company officials tried to bribe Iraqi officials, while at least two former employees face murder charges after two Afghans died in Kabul in May 2009.
