(Los Angeles) County superintendent of education steps down

The superintendent of the Los Angeles County Office of Education is stepping down after eight years amid controversy over her decision to cut education programs and allegations that she failed to enforce standards at schools for juvenile offenders.

Darline P. Robles told agency staffers late Friday about her decision to retire.

"I leave with the satisfaction that through collaborative efforts with school leaders, classroom teachers and educational partners, we have achieved positive outcomes for students and made important strides toward closing the achievement gap," Robles said. "I feel the time is right to make this change and seek new challenges."

Her departure is effective Aug. 30. Robles was unavailable for comment, said agency spokesman Richard de la Torre. No announcement was made about a successor.

1. Don't let the door hit your butt on the way out.

Anybody that writes drivel like that ought not be involved in teaching anybody anything.

2. rats deserting a sinking ship
I wonder why she gave such a short notice of her retirement? could it be that all the investigations by the Office of Head Start, the Board of Supervisors, the Government office of Accountability and the District attorney are making her think she better get out before they award her the matching bracelets when all the results of the investigations are tallied? Rumor has it she paid her friends pretty high salaries to act as consultants inexcess of $275 thousand for 10 days right after they laid off all the workers from hedstart due to lack of funds.. hmmmm ive seen the evidence and so has all those who are investigating.. you can run Darlene.. but you cannot hide from the Federal Government when you mess with federal laws.. and federal funds..
