Meek wins Democratic nod in Florida

Florida Rep. Kendrick B. Meek defeated billionaire Jeff Greene on Tuesday in a bitterly fought U.S. Senate primary. Meek's victory positions the Democrat as underdog in the three-way fall contest against Republican Marco Rubio and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who quit the GOP this year to run as an independent. In the run for the rare open Senate seat, Meek and Greene spent millions of dollars on a barrage of negative TV ads that left both candidates politically battered.

10. I think Sink has a very good chance to win Gov.
That could be very significant win for Democrats. As we all know Florida is a very important state in Presidential elections and having a Dem Gov could make the difference by stopping the GOPers from stealing another election.

13. At this point keeping that a**-wipe Rubio out is what matters
If I were a Florida voter I'd be planning on voting for Meek, but it would depend on what the situation was in November

15. It is kind of a lose-lose situation of Democrats in this Senate race.
Meek was the best Democratic candidate, but the polls I have seen show him pulling more support away from Crist, which could lead to a Rubio win.

Greene was the worst Democratic candidate, but he was so bad that most Florida Democratic voters would go for Crist over him, allowing Crist to defeat Rubio.

No real good choice here.

16. Its a very tough situation for Democrats but I think in the end it will work out.
The bottom line is to keep Rubio from winning and I think most Democrats can agree on that.

18. Without a doubt. I don't want to have to listen to that idiot for the next six years.
I am just very scared that we will probably have to. I don't think Meek is a viable candidate state wide, but he is credible enough to draw a lot of Democratic votes away from Crist.

I am going to have a hard choice on who to vote for: Meek or Crist. My heart wants Meek, but my head says Crist.

24. Yeah but come the election, it's looking like we will be voting for Crist
As of now, there's little chance Meek will be Rubio. Many Democrats are not happy with Meek- Greene was far worse, but ironically, had Greene one, it would have made voting for Crist a snap with most Dems and Crist would then easily beat Rubio. With Meek running, tried and true Dems are going to stay with him. Frankly I'm not a huge fan but I'd have Meek over Crist if given the choice because I trust that he'll vote with the Democrats. I don't have the same trust for Crist. But the thought of Rubio getting in is totally terrifying so unless Rubio does something really stupid or some huge secret about him gets leaked, the only one who can possibly beat him is Crist. I suppose that could change by Nov. but it's pretty doubtful that Meek's numbers will grow so much he could beat Rubio. Interesting times in Florida as usual.
