Some family members of 9/11 victims to support mosque construction
Source: CNN

Some family members of 9/11 victims will rally Wednesday in support of a controversial mosque and Islamic center that is scheduled to be built near New York City's ground zero.

Their group, called September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, will also be joined by at least 40 religious and civic organizations, and is expected to announce the creation of a coalition called New York Neighbors for American Values. The coalition's goals include support of "religious freedom and diversity" and the rejection of "crude stereotypes meant to frighten and divide us."

The rally is scheduled to be outside a municipal building in Manhattan.

1. I'm sure they plan to spend a lot of time in that building.
Learning the glories of Islamic culture. And possibly taking a few cooking classes.

12. aquart, check. Waiting for the second one to show. Glad you are seeing the benefits of it.
Sounds like a good idea, finding out more about Islam, taking some cooking classes.

14. LOL!
I suspect someone else is still smarting from being locked out of a certain related thread after having at least one post (maybe more) deleted.

I agree--the cooking classes sound like fun, and many probably would be interested in taking advantage of the Hebrew classes that will be offered.

:hi:

3. This is a serious question...
How many gas stations are there near Ground Zero? Because in terms of material aid to the planners of 9/11...

15. Oil comes from somewhere...
They have more connection with the Saudis than the Park51 people.

4. As I understand it, this has nothing to do with 9/11. It's about discrimination
against a specific group because of their religion

Even though this blog is trying to communicate that even some victims of 9/11 support it, that implication is that the folks involved in the community center had nothing to do with 9/11, which they DIDN'T, but that the association is even made is quite sad

5. This should grey up the crowd that thinks the victims' families monolithically oppose the thing. nt

7. I doubt it....the anti-mosque crowd will just say that the families are dishonoring their relatives
and are anti-American.

Pretty much the same deal where the Freeps say Ted Olson dishonored his wife by supporting the mosque/community center.

The haters won't be swayed by anything. Hell, if both George H. W. and George W. came out in support of the site the FReeps would disown them as RINO's.

10. This story won't get the repetitious air play the anti-Islamic center stories have gotten.
This may be the only day we hear this side of the story from any of the MSM gerbils.

Controversy and emotion sells. That's what our "news" media are all about.

18. This group has consulted with the Park51 leaders for years
Contrary to the false claims that Park51 "never consulted the 9/11 families," this group of 250 families was involved all along, as was noted in Daisy Khan's appearance with Christiane Amanpour on "This Week" Sunday:

KHAN: Well, we have already been in touch with 9/11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows. So, they represent 250 families. We've been working with them since 9/11.
