Local clergy coming together for a response to Dove World's Sept. 11 plans
Source: Gainesville Sun

...Dan Johnson, has been one of several clergy members organizing a response to the Quran burning.

On Sept. 10, Johnson's church will host a program where Muslims, Hindus, Jews and Christians will speak about their religions and unite in prayer... About 20 congregations have agreed to read from the Quran, Torah and Bible in their services that weekend, and there will be another interfaith service that Wednesday downtown.

Larry Reimer, the minister of the United Church of Gainesville, said since the plan to burn the Quran has been reported internationally, local clergy have to condemn it loudly.

"Silence in the face of their statements can be misconstrued as agreement, and I think it's important for all of us to speak up," Reimer said...

2. Why not do it on Sept. 11 at the exact time this obvious provocation for a terrorist attack happens?

Right next to where they are doing it?

As http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=4516566&mesg_id=4516833">I've asked before, remember the reaction to the Mohammed cartoons? There were riots all over the world, people died and some heavy shit went down over the cartoons.

If anyone needs a reminder, do a quick google search.

These "Dark World" mofos want another 9/11 to happen on Obama's watch and then they can say "he didn't keep us safe".

What's the worst thing you can do to provoke a Muslim extremist or even just tipping Muslims over the edge?

Burning the Qur'an, basically.

If this Qu'ran burning happens, does anyone think only local media will report it?

Or, will it be http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x8976871">Broadcast Unfiltered ALL OVER THE WORLD by Faux?

6. And the idiots that would riot in response would be just what the book-burners want
The Dove World people are a bunch of proctologists' delights who will no doubt be thrilled if their Islamic counterparts get violent about their Qur'an burning.

But let's turn the question around:

Would you advocate not doing something because it might piss off some violent "Christian" fundamentalists?

"Johnson's church will host a program where Muslims, Hindus, Jews and Christians will speak about their religions and unite in prayer..."

I'm suggesting they do this peaceful protest at the same time and at the same place (maybe accross the street or just somewhere in the same vicinity).

How's that promoting a riot?

The point I made is that the Qu'ran burning will be seen as the ultimate act of aggression against Islam by Muslims around the world and is a deliberate provocation which will certainly lead to reprisals (terrorist attacks) in the future.

9. Those that would get violent over someone else burning a book,
any book, deserve no respect whatsoever. I don't care if (the voices in their head/their deity of choice/their most deeply
held beliefs) told them to- they're just as wrong as the first set of dickheads.

Personally, I think the response to the Dove World numpties described in the OP is a great thing.

10. It's got nothing to do with who YOU respect or not. I said this is a deliberate provocation
Edited on Thu Aug-26-10 01:58 PM by Turborama
Which is a fact.

They will be deliberately provoking something really bad to happen to someone and/or some innocent people as an act of retaliation.

3. I would love to show up with at the Quran burning...
and act like I am there in support of this insanely stupid idea except I will have my own box of books...A box of Bibles and once the burning begins start chunking Bibles in the fire!

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

I am 1000% against all book burnings as I think it is the most F-ed up thing anyone can do! Despite the fact religions bug the shit out of me i would NEVER burn anyone's religious book or any book I was just making a point. Plus, I would like to see how they would react to a taste of their own medicine!

They would probably resort to violence & throw me into the fire once they knew what I was doing and the fact I am a disgusting godless heathen who voted for President Obama!

4. In a fair world
Hundreds of thousands of American Muslims should show up at this church for the culturally retarded, encircle them and WITNESS the burning of their Koran.
The fear ALONE will cause these ignorant mouthbreathers to disband.

Then we can torch their church afterwards.

5. Now, now. Torching their church would be nasty. Let's turn it into...
...a community center for LGBT youth of ALL faiths, instead.

seraphically,
Bright
