Burmese junta leaders 'step down' from military posts
Source: BBC News

Leaders of Burma's junta are reported to have resigned from their military posts, ahead of the country's first general election in two decades.

The reports said Gen Than Shwe and his deputy, Gen Maung Aye, were among those to have stepped down.

The move would allow them to register to stand in the November election.

Observers believe Gen Than Shwe is unlikely to be willing to relinquish power entirely, and could be interested in the post of civilian president.

1. I dislike the BBC editorializing by using Burma vice Myanmar
They don't call, Thailand Siam or Burkina Faso Upper Volta even though both of those names were change by military dictatorships. If the rulers in Myanmar choose to call their country by that name, what right does BBC have to refuse them? BBC may not like their politics, but that shouldn't change the fact they're calling them by the wrong name.
