Beck Regrets Calling Obama a 'Racist,' Rules Out 2012 Run with Palin.
Source: aol

"It shouldn't have been said," Beck answered. "It was poorly said ... I have a big fat mouth sometimes and I say things, and that's just not the way people should behave. And it was not accurate."
Beck said he had "miscast" as racism what he should have attributed instead to Obama's attachment, as expressed in his writings, to "liberation theology."

"He is a guy who understands the world through liberation theology, which is oppressor and victim," said Beck, referring to the movement in the Catholic Church challenging economic, political and social conditions affecting the underprivileged.

Asked if he regretted his remarks, Beck said, "Of course I do."

1. The apology was owed; let's hope it's the first of many
foolish statements he intends to retract. But what a shame he isn't running, eh? LMAO!

4. Except saying "It shouldn't have been said." is not an apology.
Like saying "I should not have bought that stock, etc." Same with saying. "I regret those remarks."

Do you regret them because you know now it was wrong to say them or do you regret that you got a response that makes you now regret the remarks?

6. That's no apology
Note how he smoothly rolls out the new false dog-whistle assertion against Obama. Liberation theology.

Liberation theology is a movement in Christian theology which construes the teachings of Jesus Christ in terms of a liberation from unjust economic, political, or social conditions. It has been described by proponents as "an interpretation of Christian faith through the poor's suffering, their struggle and hope, and a critique of society and the Catholic faith and Christianity through the eyes of the poor", and by detractors as Christianity perverted by Marxism and Communism.

That Obama is a communist/markist. Be curious if it takes a foothold in the stupid MSM.

18. to the contrary, this is a hoax.
Beck is walking back the comments, in an effort to repaint himself as an honest, serious, respectful person, when he remains anything but.
By saying this, he is aiming for increasing his audience, and comforting that part of this audience that would be offended if they ever think a rational thought.

36. Anyone who tunes into him out of curiosity from the Saturday coverage
will find that the Saturday morning Beck was a mirage and that the real Beck is a hateful hypocrite.

Anyone that continues to stay tuned to him at that point likely agreed with his POV prior to Saturday morning.

He may grow his audience but he's not going to expand it beyond those already aligned to his POV.

7. Beck is attempting to rehabilitate himself and the baggers
It is in an effort to make the teabaggers seem less extreme, while keeping them mobilized. So he says one thing to them, and one thing to everyone else. His message on the show? Hate everyone who is not a white American Protestant conservative. His message yesterday is his message to everyone else, hoping that we somehow forget what he has been saying for the last decade.

"I have a big fat mouth sometimes and I say things, and that's just not the way people should behave. And it was not accurate."

Could be applied to 100% of what comes out of Beck's mouth.

WTF is this, by the bye? Crying and heiling Hitler at the same time? Nutjob.

10. +1
not including the nazi reference. Goodwin's Law and all that.

He's morphing or trying to. He's realized he can only do so much on the crazy train and he is now trying to transform to be palatable to a greater audience. He may or may not try to run for something, but my guess is he'd never run for anything short of P or VP. He is a confirmed attention whore and has to be noticed or he'll wilt. He will also always make the move that enriches him the most. Short of some attempt to run which I doubt .. I'm sure at least one of his handlers can do math and knows he'd fall on his face .. he's setting himself up for a larger audience = more $$ and that could well lead to more influence on some segment of voters to advance his purported tea party agenda.

I personally think he would become a raging left-winger on a dime if the winds changed and he saw attention and profit for himself. Guys like Hannity or Levin at least believes in "the right" and would advocate that side of the spectrum if he were penniless on a street corner. Beck IMHO is a different beast, using their shtick for his own gain. By his own admission in the Forbes article, he's in it for the attention and the money .. the message is whatever gives him maximum advancement in that realm. He's not PT Barnum, but he'd like to be.

12. Bingo
I wondered if someone sat him down and read him the definition of sedition.

"The crime of seditious conspiracy is committed when two or more persons in any state or U.S. territory conspire to levy war against the U.S. government. A person commits the crime of advocating the violent overthrow of the federal government when she willfully advocates or teaches the overthrow of the government by force, publishes material that advocates the overthrow of the government by force, or organizes persons to overthrow the government by force. A person found guilty of seditious conspiracy or advocating the overthrow of the government may be fined and sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. States also maintain laws that punish similar advocacy and conspiracy against the state government."

11. How can Obama be attached to liberation theology
if he's a closet Muslim?
Liberation theology is a thoroughly Catholic doctrine.
Remember Catholicism, Beck?
It's the religion you decided to despise and reject.
Along with every other form of respectable mainline Christianity.

19. I am so fucking sick
of hearing about liberation theology. Its fucking ridiculous that Beck views this as some sort of negative thing and that Obama's belief in it somehow means that he is a racist. Its insanity and full-on revisionist history.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberation_theology

Here, take a look at what it actually means and you tell me if any reasonable human being would not only have a problem with it but equate those who believe in it with racists. Beck cant even apologize without making some sort of offensive bullshit accusation.

This should be a news story. A major conservative commentator bashes liberation theology and then claims that believing in it is the same as being racist. Our media is so fucking pathetic.

22. I like Chris Wallace's question to Beck: 'Who Made YOU the God-Squad?'

hilarious - and if you get a chance to see the video where he talks about calling Obama a racist, he hemmed and hawed through the whole thing like a kid with his hand in a cookie jar who wouldn't let go of the cookies he had grabbed, but couldn't get his hand out of the jar because he had too many in his clutches.

What a shifty say-anything weasel he is

28. Liberation theology is the hope of Christianity.
I am not a Christian, but I believe there is a place at the table of progressives for Christians. Christians and non-religious humanists can share a common interest in furthering human liberation. I would hope for the foundation of a people's church toward this end.

29. Please, please PLEASE run for President with Sarah Palin.
I know, I'm one of those guys who was rooting for George W. Bush, too, because I thought the American people couldn't possibly be foolish enough to ever elect him (and technically, I was right).

But this lineup? It's double stupid. It's stupendously stupid! It's stupid f*cking stupid in the *ss and having an even stupider sh*t-baby of stupid that goes back and f*cks its stupid parents in the *ss, producing ever more stupid sh*t in a degrading spiral of... stupidity.

Please, Glenn! With your narcissism and her histrionics, we will be treated to a mindless circus not seen since... since the last time Republicans ran for President.
