WikiLeaks founder questioned by Swedish police
Source: AP

STOCKHOLM – WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been questioned by Swedish police about an allegation that he mistreated a woman, his lawyer said Tuesday.

Leif Silbersky said Assange, an Australian citizen, was questioned by police in Stockholm for about an hour late Monday and was formally informed of the suspicions against him. Silbersky said his client denies the allegation and is hopeful prosecutors will drop the case.

Police began investigating Assange earlier this month after two Swedish women accused him of rape and molestation, but prosecutors later closed the rape investigation. Molestation is not a sex crime under Swedish law. It covers offenses such as reckless conduct or inappropriate physical contact. It can result in fines or up to one year in prison.

Assange, who was in Sweden partly to seek legal protection for WikiLeaks, has suggested that the accusations are part of a smear campaign.

7. The rape. Not the molestation.
This all seems pretty weak. I imagine all charges will be dropped, but who knows.

8. They have reopened the rape charges today

Decision on the request for review

Director of Public Prosecution Ms Marianne Ny has decided on the request for review in the Assange matter.

The investigation concerning rape will be reopened.

- There is reason to believe that a crime has been committed. Considering information available at present, my judgement is that the classification of the crime is rape. The basis for further considerations is not sufficient at the moment. More investigations are neccessary before a final decision can be made.

The investigation concerning molestation will be extended to include all allegations in the original police report.

- There is reason to believe that a crime has been committed. Based on the information available, the crimes in question come under the heading of sexual coercion and sexual molestation, respectively.

Director of Public Prosecution Marianne Ny will be leading the further investigations. She will be assisted by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Ms Erika Lejnefors.

- Due to the investigation and the persons involved in the matter, I cannot give more information concerning details in the investigation.

:)
I posted it here first this morning beating many of the mainstream outlets, as best I can tell. Reuters had it first, but I knew same time as them when Wikileaks tweeted. Haven't you noticed I never sleep? I'm on North Carolina time, Alaska time AND Swedish time. :D

13. and before you know it, the police interview is leaked
(officially made available???) again to the tabloid that published the smear in the first place:

http://www.expressen.se/nyheter/1.2118961/har-ar-forhoret-med-assange-ord-for-ord

Someone is trying to make a point here, apparently.

The accusation is that he deliberately made a hole in the condom before they had sex. Sure, whatever.

14. I've heard of women making holes in their diaphragms, but that seems unlikely. nt
