Exclusive: Meghan McCain Writes that Palin Brought 'Drama, Stress ... Panic' to Campaign
Source: ABC News

For the first time since the end of her father's 2008 presidential bid, Meghan McCain, Sen. John McCain's daughter, spoke out about Sarah Palin, writing in a new book that Palin brought "drama, stress, complications, panic and loads of uncertainty" to the losing campaign.

-----

In the book, McCain refers to Palin as "the Time Bomb," and calls her selection the very definition of the "line between genius and insanity."

One area where McCain does not stumble is her take on Sarah Palin's "disastrous" interview with CBS News' Katie Couric before the vice presidential debate, when Palin couldn't even state what newspapers she read.

"Katie Couric's interview with her before the vice presidential debate had been disastrous. Unhappy with her performance, Palin seemed to blame the interview on the campaign. And she continued to blame other poor interviews and snafus on the campaign too," McCain writes. "Sarah Palin. She was turning out to be somebody who leaves a wake of confusion and chaos -- to the point of dizziness -- wherever she went."

clearly searching for lie in that interview, that is what became clear.
I was very surprised that Katie went for the jugular by asking the question more than once. (to her credit and the nations I might add)

Palin couldn't answer a simple question..honestly..then she said..(and I think these are the exact words) "all of them.."

25. Agreed. Couric has no concept of a tough interview.
Palin would have been completely crushed by a competent interviewer, of which few exist in MSM these days. The fourth rail has been off its tracks for some time.

33. Couric went easy on her
Couric's body language was like that of a boxer who was pummeling his opponent. The opponent (in this case, Palin) was clearly staggering. Everyone knew that she would've gone down with one more punch. Rather than hit her again and being accused of piling on, she simply put her hands down at her side, like a boxer, and let Palin stagger until, mercifully, they stopped the fight.

51. I had a letter to the editor printed on that one
Somebody had one published where they were shrieking about how mean Katie Couric was and how tough and biased the questions were...

I think my letter stated commenting about Couric asking what newspaper she read was not exactly a bulldog like question, and ended it by saying that the interview demonstrated that Palin can definitely answer one question with a resounding "no", and that was "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?"

10. McCain Picked Her
So true, and it was a clear indicator of decisions he would have made and how he would have made them had he become :::shudder::: president.

Had she been vetted properly there is no way he would have chosen her, the ethics investigations alone would have produced too many red flags. He picked her in an emotional, quick decision which is NOT what we want from the leader of our country.

42. "Assured"?
He had been "assured" Palin had been vetted? Really! And never asked to see the results? wow, just WOW. I've read a bit about the behind-the-scenes of the campaign and had not read that! I did read alot of interesting tidbits about Palin's emotional state of mind during the campaign and it was frightening to know how close she came to a position of power.

A candidate for President who takes an "assurance" that his partner, who could become president in the event of his death, was qualified to lead the country is not anyone I want protecting my interests or making decisions about my country.

He had no idea what he was getting when he got Palin. There was never a connection between them. She was an attack dog, plain and simple. Of course, for the democrats her ignorance is the gift that keeps on giving.

He could so easily have croaked while in office, especially under all the stress of being President of a country that's in a shambles in so many ways. I think it's quite likely that if he'd been elected, he'd be dead now. He knew that too, he had to have thought of it, and still picked her.

I know people who identify themselves as Republicans who are looking for some sanity in their party ... some of them even voted for Obama in '08 because they were fed up with what their party has become and looked to his message as one to get the country back on track.

32. He is her father
Unless she was estranged from him, we cannot expect her to have a hateful view of the man. In her excerpt, she paints a pretty objective view of the republican party, but understandably her portrayal of her father is subjective. For such a young woman, she has some impressive insights. It will be interesting to see where she is at philosophically and politically ten or fifteen years from now.

38. Sarah always bites the hand that feeds her...
No one has ever talked about how impolite and selfish she is. Sarah Palin is just NOT a nice person!

We can all talk about how stupid, narcissistic and dishonest she is. However, have you ever noticed
that she's just plain MEAN?

During the campaign, reporters interviewed those who knew Sarah when she was climbing the political
ladder. From her first position on a school board--to mayor of Wasilla to governor of Alaska--Palin
consistently stabbed those in the back who helped leverage her to those positions.

Not only was she ungrateful to the very people who propped her up, she ended up working against them
and undoing their careers. It was as if she can't stand it when someone helps her, because it's
a constant reminder that she lacks the smarts and talent to get anywhere on her own. She's a dopey,
cute woman who needs the help of everyone around her and she doesn't like that truth.

Same thing with the McCain campaign. If it wasn't for McCain, she wouldn't have been on the national
stage. Period. But she turns against them. She blamed them for that Couric interview, when she
was the one giving the answers. Unbelievable.

Sarah Palin is just not a nice person. She's sounds psychologically damaged and incredibly mixed up.

segment - I don't remember the phrasing, but it was kind of like a 'watch out for her' warning.

At least the story about marijuana relieving pain (]link:www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4522104|I posted it a day ago or so]) had more news than this.

Oh yeah, anyone think Meghan McCain is hot? :D

56. Palin may have been popular governor in AK but not fit for
prominent national office such as President or even VP.
She does not have gravitas.

and told him that we were in for a big surprise when we find out more about her.

80. Did'nt she have like a 80% approval rating in Alaska?
The payoff to all AK residents with the contract she signed with
oil companies operating in AK had a lot to do with it.

95. That's exactly what it was.
She facilitated the redistribution of a great deal of wealth from the oil companies to the residents. That will tend to make a person very popular among the recipients.

It sounds like Meghan also has some issues with the Republican base and their lack of tolerance for anyone with a even a slightly different perspective.

67. John McCain is responsible for hoisting that putrid sack of lies on America
so, Meggie - tell your father fuck you very much, asshole.

If Republicans had the courage of their convictions, they'd tell the religious right and the assholes who represent them to shut up. But they don't - so we end up with people like McCain backing away from convictions he'd held for years in order to appease the fascist wing of the Republican Party.

John McCain is responsible for the rise of Sarah Palin.

78. Isn't That All Campaigns?
Isn't there a certain amount of drama, stress and panic with all campaigns?

And I lost a little respect for Meghan McCain when I saw her get smacked down by Paul Begala on Real Time. She tried to make some cutesy "you know I wasn't born yet so I wouldn't know." To which Begala responded "I wasn't born during the French Revolution but I know about it."

a plate of still-warm, freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies washed down by ice cold milk. Instead of receiving the silent treatment, Palin enjoyed celebrity status on this forum.

84. McCain and the Pukes got exactly what they deserved with Palin...
Remember how they brought her out right after Obama speech? I remember Puke folks on a forum crowing about how the Democrats had been pawned by that move. Everyone was forgetting all about Obama and going crazy for Palin and hahahaha, "gotcha!'

I have no doubt both Repubs and McCain were strutting and slapping each other on the back about how clever they'd been. How they had it in the bag now. And then, Palin crashed, burned and bit them all in the ass.

No sympathy. Not for any of them. They got what they deserved. Ronald Regan Republicanism to it's craziest conclusion. She's the far-right poster child, and long may she stay that because as long as she is, she'll split the votes and keep them losin'.

you just coyly dance around it so you can sell books but nobody can accuse you of actually saying what you're really saying. You and Sarah Palin are both sellouts.
