MILAN (Michigan): Feds investigate oily substance found in Saline River
Source: The Milan News-Leader

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is investigating the source of an oily substance that was discovered in the Saline River Sunday in Milan.

Members of the Washtenaw County Hazardous Materials Response Team responded to the Platt Road bridge overlooking the river and verified complaints of oil in the water, officials said.

"There was no current and you could definitely see it floating on top of the water," said Vic Cheverette, HAZMAT team director.

He said the water level had a rainbow sheen and that blotches of black tar could be seen below the surface. There was no odor or fumes present.

Late July, there was an oil spill from a ruptured pipeline at Talmadge Creek in southern Michigan. Wonder if these are connected.
