Washington Times Sold (to Rev. Moon) For $1, Just Like Newsweek
Source: US News & World Report

The Rev. Sun Myung Moon is regaining control of the Washington Times after allies of the South Korean spiritual leader agreed to acquire the paper for just $1 and assumption of most if its debts, according to an internal memo.

The memo contradicts rumors that a feud among the Moon's sons over control of the Washington Times prompted the father to buy it back for tens of millions of dollars.

... In the memo written by Michael Marshall, UPI editor emeritus and a Times adviser (both are owned by Unification Church controlled News World Media), earlier suggestions that Moon son Preston was planning to close the paper were also challenged. Instead, Marshall wrote that Preston Moon invested money to keep the paper afloat after his brother Justin cut off funding last year from the church sources that have historically funded the Times.

He wrote that Preston was devoted to continuing the paper, even after massive staff cuts, to keep alive the legacy of his father, who started the newspaper in 1982 as a conservative and Christian voice in Washington. "If there was no concern for TWT's future as part of the founder's legacy, it could simply have been closed by (Preston Moon-controlled Unification Church International.) Instead, UCI has struggled valiantly for over a year to keep TWT alive, after funding from Asia was cut off without warning in July 2009."

1. That's such a lame, dishonest paper, I never take anything
they write as fact. So for me, it doesn't matter.

10. @ Chicago's Netroots convention, I ran into
the WaTimes reporter assigned to cover us attendees. she was pleasant, cute enough, and after many drinks, she began to spew truths out.

" I HATE this place. They are a bunch of MORONS. Misogynic, racist, sexually harassing assholes who think George Bush walks on water. I hate my job. I need a life. Ever been told that your vocabulary is huge, but your tits are too small?"

An unhappy camper if I ever saw one.

11. Hahaha! I hope she found a new job!
That indeed sounds like it sucks, but to use the WaTimes as a reference doesn't sound like the best career move either.

3. The Right-wing has Politico now. The Wash Times has been dead for years.
It limps by on selling ad space for foreclosure notices. Really a local joke. So is its son, Politico, generally not taken seriously as a reliable news source - Politico has a few good columnists, though.

13. That article has some questionable issues - with me. Moon has some questionable
dealing with No Korea, which was supposed to be Communist, and Christian hate commies, right?

In that article they refer to 'Asia' - they don't say the Asian stock market, of China, or Japan, or South Koread, they just say Asia. In addition, towards the end they reference Korea, but they don't say North or South.

I find it strange that they seem to go out of the way to not say what they who in Asia.

Maybe I missed something.

That man is slimy in his business dealings.

Some day I want to know if those legislatures in Washington who attended Moon's'crowning' went voluntarily or not.
