Afghanistan bomb attacks kill twenty-one US soldiers in 48 hours
Source: UK Telegraph

Gen David Petraeus, senior US and Nato commander in the country, warned last week fighting would “get harder before it gets easier”.

In two of the most deadly recent incidents, three Americans died in eastern Afghanistan on one bomb attack on Tuesday. Five died in a single bomb attack in the south on Monday.

Military spokesmen would not say if the bombs hit vehicles or foot patrols.

Homemade bombs using old shells or homemade explosives and hidden in roads, tracks, walls, streams and buildings have become the Taliban’s favoured weapon.

If we're supposed to leave in 2011, why not just leave now? Who wants to be the last man to die -or become crippled or burned- in a lost cause?

9. Yeah, but like the old saying goes.
They're OUR cabal of puppet, drug-running, thugs, and hoodlums.

I don't even think they're that anymore.

7. No more deaths on this made up war !
The Americian people need to speak out loudly that the troops should be home NOW ! We should be ashamed that once again we are allowing our brave Americian troops to be killed in a unnessary non war ! We claim that our country is one of the few that values every single life as being as important as any other life ,yet we take our inlisted men and women and waste their lives in the mideast, lets bring them home station them at the borders and in the airports to stop any future repeat of 9/11 !
IMHO,Nick

8. Why in the hell are we there?!
This makes me madder than hell. There is no purpose, no strategy, and no reason for being in that hell hole.

14. The entire region
is one of the richest in hydrocarbons and untapped mineral wealth on earth. It is also a buffer zone between the West and developing Eastern powers. There is no shortage of motives for Western corporatist imperialism.

15. Now they begin the same lesson they taught the Soviets.
Shit's gonna happen, and now we get to find out how much depth of understanding (or lack thereof) our military leadership really has.

16. where are the weapons and funding coming from?
the mujahadeen wouldn't have been as successful as they were against the Soviets without the direct funding and supply of the US of Goddamn A. the Taliban are no different. they have funding and supply networks, especially for explosives.

9 years in, we should know the answer to these questions: is their money coming from just heroin smuggling? extortion? the ISI? Wahhabis?

most importantly, who do we have to "surge" (bribe) to stop the attacks?

19. Nothing in Afghanistan has ever ended well for anyone.
Our efforts there will be no different. It's a hellhole, a quagmire, and a place where the only thing we'll gain is a lot of dead American kids. Tragic.
