Six Oregon men settle Boy Scout sex abuse cases
Source: Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Six men who alleged they were sexually abused by an Oregon Boy Scouts leader in the 1980s have settled their lawsuits against the group's national organization for undisclosed amounts.

The settlements include the case of one man, Kerry Lewis, who was awarded nearly $20 million in damages from Boys Scouts of America in a trial that ended in April. It was believed to be the largest such award against the national organization.

A jury found the Texas-based group negligent for allowing a former assistant scoutmaster, Timur Dykes, to associate with Scouts after he admitted to a Scouts official in 1983 that he had molested 17 boys.

The verdict came as the Boy Scouts, a congressionally chartered organization, mark their centennial.

1. What a piece of CRAP reporting. Scrubbed clean of any mention of the Mormon Church.
Read the REAL story on this and how the Mormon Church, who runs the Boy Scouts, was a co-defendent in this trial.

$1.4M Verdict in Boy Scouts of America, LDS Church Molestation Case
By Tanya Roth on April 14, 2010 11:50 AM | No TrackBacks

Yesterday, a Portland, Oregon jury awarded $1.4 million in damages to a plaintiff who had accused the Boy Scouts of America together with its local body, the Portland-based Cascade Pacific Council, and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, of negligence in failing to prevent his molestation by a Scoutmaster in the 1980's. The jury also found the defendants liable for punitive damages, which could reach up to $25 million and will be decided during the next phase of trial.

2. Thanks for that info. I've known that AP was in Rove's pocket. Didn't know about Mormons.
For those who buy into RW lawyer bashing, who do you think worked for free and paid out of pocket costs until these victims got some compensation?

3. Oh, then it's another case of homophobes who protect child molesters?
How nice.
