Posted: September 3rd, 2010 12:40 PM ET
President Obama’s approval rating is up, according to a new CNN Poll.
President Obama’s approval rating is up, according to a new CNN Poll.

(CNN) - A new national poll indicates that President Barack Obama's approval rating has edged up three points, and it appears that the war in Iraq is behind the bump. But according to the CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, Americans are giving the president bad marks on the economy.

The survey, released Friday, indicates that 50 percent of Americans approve of the job Obama's doing as president, up from 47 percent in last month, with 49 percent disapproving, down two points from August. And Obama's approval on how he's handling the conflict in Iraq now stands at 57 percent, an eight point jump from July. The poll was conducted Wednesday and Thursday, after the president gave a prime time address from the Oval Office on Iraq.

1. Have they mentioned this on air yet?
Or is it only being reported on their "blogs"?

3. I wouldn't give that speech too much credit.
I think it was actually the Glenn Beck nutball rally that woke a few people up.

4. Anytime Obama gets out there and speaks to the public and informs
them of his accomplishmnets and what he wants to do will increase his poll numbers. The republicants are running the media speech. Obmama needs to shut it down.

8. I agree with you

When he's on TV or the news acting reasonable and explaining his policies it's harder for the opposition to paint him in another way.

7. He, and we, are getting killed in the media
the point, obiviously, is to declare victory and diminish interest in actually voting

They HAD to include the negatives in the story right beside (and after) the positive

10. Trend is up....
So, can't complain... Still, numbers appear much lower than what I would guess is a much higher overall approval number.

12. If we didn't have a media with an agenda, they'd be much higher. But 50% is respectable. (nt)

14. The number would be closer to 70% if he told the Pukes to screw off.
Be nice if he worried about the country more, and not making Republicans happy.

16. every president gets a temporary bump in the polls after a speech.
It's just the rally around the flag effect. But his approval numbers were pretty good before the speech, anyways.
