Obama Revs Into Campaign Mode in Wisconsin
Source: CBS News

In his second Labor Day in office, President Obama returned to the site of his Labor Day speech in the heart of campaign 2008 — Milwaukee — and a crowd of union supporters to kick off his defense of Democrats who are struggling to retain control of Congress in campaign 2010.

He used the appearance to do what many Democrats have hoped he'd have done all year: Fight back against Republican opposition and focus on issue number one for voters, the economy.

"I'm going to keep fighting, every single day, every single hour, every single minute, to turn this economy around; to put people back to work; to renew the American Dream for your families and for future generations," he told the crowd of over 10,000.

He not only unveiled a new proposal to rebuild 150,000 miles of roads, 4,000 miles of rail and 150 miles of America's runways; he also began his defense of his and Congressional Democrats' actions on the economy by lashing out at the Republicans'.

1. MSNBC - "Obama assails GOP, promotes new jobs program"
The corporate media will assail Obama for (1) not showing enough passion and emotion and (2) not being bi-partisan enough with these heated attacks on the GOP. Yes, it is internally inconsistent, but when you control all of the media, who needs to be consistent?

MILWAUKEE — A combative President Barack Obama rolled out a long-term jobs program Monday that would exceed $50 billion to rebuild roads, railways and runways, and coupled it with a blunt campaign-season assault on Republicans for causing Americans' hard economic times.

GOP leaders instantly assailed Obama's proposal as an ineffective one that would simply raise already excessive federal spending. Many congressional Democrats are also likely to be reluctant to boost expenditures and increase federal deficits just weeks before elections that will determine control of Congress.

Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, cautioned, "If we are going to get anything done, Republican cooperation, which has been all but non-existent recently, will be necessary."

That left the plan with low, if not impossible, odds of becoming law this year. When Congress returns from summer recess in mid-September, it is likely to remain in session for only a few weeks before lawmakers return home to campaign for re-election.

5. Oh really?
From the speech: "Remarking on efforts to bolster America's middle class, Obama noted his agenda has often brushed up against that of the wealthy."

When has that EVER happened in the Obama administration?

"Some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time, and they're not always happy with me," the president said. "They talk about me like a dog. That's not in my prepared remarks, but it's true."

Oh really? Name ONE powerful interest that doesn't like Obama.

"It was working men and women who made the twentieth century the American century."

You can tell it's election time when politicians drag out the pro-working class rhetoric. The rest of the time, it's as if we didn't exist.

BP counts as "the wealthy" right? Do you think they liked being forced by Pres. Obama in a closed-door meeting to set up a $20B upfront and immediate go-to nest egg for oil spill victims when they had refused to entertain the notion beforehand?

Wall Street banks count as "the wealthy" right? Do you think they liked Pres. Obama slapping TARP II payback terms on Bush's no-strings-attached TARP I that has resulted in billions of interest payments averaging 8+% that have enriched the Treasury and further billions in preferred stock to be collected when finally sold?

Go through this list and tell me if "wealthy" interests (represented by K Street lobbyists and the Chamber of Commerce) sent any money to the DNC supporting the passage of any of the following accomplishments of the Obama administration:

Personally, I would expect an influx of low-post-count Repug trolls over the next couple of months, all posing as "progressives" who are disillusioned with Obama and singing the "don't bother voting, what's the use?" song.

I, for one, agree with Rachel Maddow, when she pointed out that "the last time we had a president accomplish this much change, booze was illegal." Do we really want to trade that in on a Congress run by Boehner and the Tea Partiers, dedicated to blocking Obama at every opportunity?
