Oracle Hires Mark Hurd As Co-President
Source: Business Insider.com

It didn't take long for Mark Hurd to land on his feet.

Just one month after being pushed out of HP for reasons still somewhat unclear, Oracle is hiring Hurd as co-president. (Oracle's other president is Safra Catz.)

Oracle CEO and founder Larry Ellison is tennis partners with Hurd, and immediately stood up for Hurd after his ouster. Ellison's strong support for Hurd led Owen Thomas at VentureBeat to speculate Oracle would hire Hurd.

Thomas also said it would be conceivable for Hurd to have CEO-like role at Oracle. While Ellison is likely CEO for life, he also has other interests like sailing which take up his time.

Another example of how the ultra-rich look out for their own. No surprise there.

2. Right. But I have to think it had to be dynamite, . . .
. . . and true.

When you have that kind of money and those kinds of connections, it's pretty easy to fight allegations. To just walk away . . . well, to me, that speaks volumes.

3. After Fiorina and her spy scandal maybe they didn't want to touch anything else.
Who knows? I'd sure love to be a fly on the wall though. You are right it sounds juicy.

4. Ellison hires Hurd because he stands up for him, not because he's the best person for the job?
Just saying.

5. He did a good job at HP before he messed up with this reality tv person.
This might be a good move for Oracle if they can keep Hurd from screwing around.

6. I hope that you're kidding about doing a good job at HP
Mark Hurd was a horrible CEO. During his tenure as CEO he oversaw huge layoffs and for us lucky few that remained (yep, I'm an HP'er) got not one, not two, but three lovely pay cuts last year all while the company made huge profits and the executive board members all took down 7 & 8 figure compensation packages.

Yep, he was awesome!

The US employees at Oracle should now be very concerned about their jobs, because their collective heads are on the chopping block all in the name of corporate profits. And those poor people at recently acquired Sun Microsystems will be the first to go.

7. I admit everything I know about the situation is from the talking heads at CNBC.
I defer to your first person experience.

9. Absolutely !!
Ex EDSer here. Yes I watched the wholesale shipment of tech jobs to India. I then worked with a number of my "counterparts". Believe me, they were not better, just cheaper. We had a few major contracts that went to India, and had to be brought back because they did such a terrible job. So what did the company do? We kept ths contracts for a year and kept the client happy while they taught our counterparts to read the "scripts" better. My point is that some decisions may increase the bottom line for short-term gain, but build no strength for the company's future. I hate to think of Hurd having any say on a product used so widely throughout the industry.

10. Oracle can-ee here, and . . .
. . . 55+ to boot. I didn't like what I saw at Oracle, and this news only validates how rotten the place/industry/system is.

Larry Ellison is one of the world's richest men. AND a big proponent of offshoring as many jobs as possible. But would he ever use even a fraction of his billions to bring jobs back -- and keep existing jobs here?

It's. All. About. The. Greed. And his hiring in Hurd hammers it home.
