Mexican state reduces penalty for abortion 'crime'
Published on 7 September 2010 - 3:17am

Six women condemned to up to 29 years in prison for abortion will see their sentences reduced to eight years thanks to a reform in central Mexico, defense groups said Monday.

The reform, which passed last week in Guanajuato state, still considers abortion an "infanticide," said Veronica Cruz, the head of a local women's group.

Half of Mexico's 32 states punish abortions with prison sentences. Mexico City is alone in having decriminalized abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

3. That was the worst post mistake ever sorry..
I by no means like any sentence for abortion, I probably shouldnt have said my post so simply and late at night when I was tired. I meant to say why are we so far ahead of Mexico. My Fault. :spank:

4. well its a step in the right direction but the women should be free to

have an abortion without it being a crime.

Mexican men could easily love and RESPECT their women more.

6. Good for them. But an honest question...
I wonder how many abortion-seeking Mexican women historically have crossed the border from Mexico to the US since Roe v. Wade? Maybe some of the anti-abortion right-wingers will find it a relief that pro-choice Mexican policy will help decrease illegal border crossings.
