Murkowski: I'm 'still in this game'

A week after conceding the GOP primary, U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski says she's not a quitter and "still in this game."

Murkowski told The Associated Press on Tuesday that she's been inundated with calls and e-mails from supporters, asking her not to leave the race. She says she's been humbled, and is listening -- and weighing her options.

1. The last time a defeated U.S. Senator stayed in the race in Alaska after the primary was 1968

That year, it was Ernest Gruening, one of only two senators to have voted against the Gulf of Tonkin resolution. He'd been beaten in the Democratic primary by Mike Gravel, who pretty much ran as LBJ's instrument of revenge against Gruening and his antiwar position.

As an independent, Gruening took 10%. And he was someone who was actually admired by millions of people all around the country, unlike Lisa, who's still basically unknown outside Alaska.

9. It's impossible for her to make the ballot

Unless by some strange miracle, the final count of mostly overseas absentee ballots produces a net gain of about 2,000 votes for her tomorrow. Until then, she just looks like a sore loser, and that builds sympathy for Miller.

The write-in campaign would be challenging, having to spell M-U-R-K-O-W-S-K-I might be quite difficult for the Rethug voters of a state that elected Caribou Barbie.

She is having discussions with the candidate for the Libertarian Party and he seems willing to give her his spot on the ballot if she promises to leave the Republican Party and become a real Libertarian..We know how Republicans are, they will promise anything to get Power and then do exactly what they want anyway..She is a proved LIAR, so her word is not really good on any issue. It is sounding though as if she will indeed be on the November ballot, running as a Libertarian. That could actually be even better for the Democrats. She will indeed receive a majority of Republican votes but Miller will get a whole bunch as well, which will split their vote and allow McAdams to pull this one out..

but I expect Murkowski to take ONLY if she thinks she can win it, for sure. She won't do it just to spite Miller and let Adams walk into that seat, she'd forever be known as a spoiler, the way we think of Ralph Nader.

12. The ONLY way that is at all possible is if many Republicans would otherwise vote for McAdams.

Otherwise having Murkowski in the mix can only split Republican votes and make McAdams position much stronger.
