FBI Says Retaliation for Koran Burning 'Likely'
Source: ABC News

The FBI is concerned that Islamic extremists might attack and retaliate at this Saturday's Koran burning planned by radical Florida pastor Terry Jones, ABC News has learned.

"While the FBI has no information to indicate a specific attack has been planned against the United States or U.S. assets in response to the 'International Burn a Koran Day' event, the FBI assesses with high confidence that, as with past incidents perceived as acts of desecration against Islam, extremist actors will continue to threaten or attempt to harm the leaders, organizers, or attendees the event," an FBI intelligence bulletin notes.

The FBI is concerned not only about the potential for an attack at the event -- but also about retaliation going forward. The Aug. 19, 2010 intelligence bulletin out of the Bureau's Jacksonville field office is entitled, "Extremists Likely to Retaliate Against Florida Group's Planned 'International Burn a Koran Day.'"

The intelligence bulletin states that Jones' advertising of the event drew an immediate response from a known terrorist website frequented by radicals. Postings on the Al-Faloja website included a forum member writing, "I wish to detonate myself in this church now. ... I want to become a martyr and detonate myself in this filthiest filth."

4. Really, you think?
Question is, will it happen here or will it happen to American traveling abroad?

I am a little concerned about that as I am traveling to a Muslim nation next month. I do hope the retaliation if there is any, is directed at those who are instigating this crime on humanity.

14. Asking to be attacked?
Kind of like wearing a short skirt is asking to be raped?

I absolutely abhor book burners. Second to them are people who claim the non-violent actions of someone else made them commit a violent act.

12. The only proper way to respond to people who burn Korans is to ignore them
That applies to Muslims as well as non-Muslims IMO.

17. Not going to happen, unfortunately
For example, Anderson Cooper is doing stories on why CNN wants to ignore this nutcase, but it can't because people need to see what a nutcase he is. "Any publicity is good publicity," the saying goes.

This preacher is like the kid in a restaurant who won't stop screaming.* Everyone tries to ignore him, but the more he's ignored the louder he screams until the exasperated parent takes him outside, which means the brat wins the game of "Who's Got the Power?"

The moment he or anyone burns a page of the Koran it opens the floodgates for reprisal, which causes a response, and a counter-response, etc.

My thought is he's waiting for President Obama to make some sort of public plea or even better call personally and ask he refrain from the burning. If so, guess who wins "Who's Got the Power?" in a contest with the most powerful man in the world?

--

* There was a story last night about a restaurant that has a "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Screaming Kids" policy. They say their business has increased...

he would be the first wondering why this happened, if a priest has to carry a gun that priest should relize he is doing something wrong both physically and spirtially.

16. So what's the message to the Muslim "retaliators"?
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 07:49 PM by Bragi
Seriously, asshat Jones is going to burn Korans, so what is the message we have for those anrgy Muslims who, we are warned, are poised to do harm to Americans because of asshat's actions?

We've already called asshat an asshat, but there are still many Muslims, we are told, who will go on a rampage to retaliate for his insult to the Koran, they'll burn embassies, attack Americans abroad, do real harm.

In response, Americans seem want to kick asshat's ass harder, but also seem reluctant to tell the retaliators to back off, to tell them they will be held responsible for their actions.

When do we think American leaders should start saying that? After the embassies are burning?

21. Isnt that the whole point of this?
I mean, that's what they want. War. They hope to force the US into being a christian nation by inciting Islam to violence against it. It seems fairly obvious.
