Tennessee announces $2,500 electric car rebate
The Detroit News

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen announced today that the state would offer a $2,500 tax rebate to buyers of the first 1,000 electric vehicles sold in the state.

The move, announced today during the Fuel Solutions Forum hosted by the Tennessee Valley Authority, is expected to help Nissan Motor Co. with the launch in December of its battery-powered, all-electric Leaf compact.

Tennessee's $2,500 rebate, combined with a maximum $7,500 federal tax credit, could lower the Leaf's price to $22,780 from a sticker price of $32,780, Nissan said.

Nissan has plants in Tennessee and will start producing the Leaf in the state in 2012, along with the advanced lithium-ion batteries powering it. The automaker received a $1.4 billion loan from the U.S. Energy Department for the construction of the battery plant and the retooling of the Smyrna assembly plant.

2. so their assholes for supporting a company that invested in their state?
while GM has fucked them over after receiving incentives to produce the Chevy Traverse SUV in Spring Hill only to turn around and send the Traverse back to Michigan after a year.

For vast sections of this country an appeal to patriotism for the Detroit automakers will be met only with one or more well earned middle fingers.
