Americans OK Allowing Tax Cuts for Wealthy to Expire
Edited on Fri Sep-10-10 11:12 PM by TomCADem
Source: Gallup

PRINCETON, NJ -- A majority of Americans favor letting the tax cuts enacted during the Bush administration expire for the wealthy. While 37% support keeping the tax cuts for all Americans, 44% want them extended only for those making less than $250,000 and 15% think they should expire for all taxpayers.

These results are based on an Aug. 27-30 USA Today/Gallup poll. The fate of the 2001 and 2003 federal income tax cuts that were a centerpiece of Bush administration policy could be a significant campaign issue this fall. The tax cuts are set to expire after this year unless Congress votes to extend them. Congress plans to take up the issue next week when it returns to session.

It appears as though Congress, like the American public, broadly agrees that the tax cuts should be extended for American families earning less than $250,000. The debate Congress will have this fall will be over whether to extend the tax cuts for wealthier Americans. Most Republicans and some Democrats in Congress are thought to favor extending them for wealthier Americans. President Obama said Wednesday that he is opposed to any plan that would extend the tax cuts for wealthier Americans.

The president's views on ending the tax cuts for wealthy Americans are in line with the views of the majority of rank-and-file Democrats. Meanwhile, the majority of Republicans want the tax cuts extended for all taxpayers, regardless of their income level. Independents' views fall between those of the two groups, but a majority (56%) would seem to endorse the idea of not extending tax cuts for higher-income Americans, whether or not they want them extended for middle- and lower-income Americans.

Here is another story that will be buried by the corporate media. The majority of Americans do NOT support extending the Bush tax cuts to the richest Americans. Yet, will the corporate media continue to suppress this fact? What do you think?

1. I think we have a golden issue.

I want Republicans to explain from now until election day why they won't allow anybody to have a tax cut until the richest get theirs first.

To make it happen we have to draw a hard line and stand by it with no compromise. I wonder if that's possible?

2. Sadly, The Facts Will Be Suppressed, The Right Will Push A ...
...Narrative that polls actually support extending tax cuts to the rich, while some on the Rand Paul staffer left will push a false narrative that President Obama actually supports extending tax cuts to the rich contrary to what President Obama has proposed and pushed.

11. Agreed, the Dems need to introduce a bill just lettign the middle-class keep their tax cut
Let the Republicans oppose it, and use it against them if they try to block it. Republicans don't give a s*** about middle-class tax cuts, let's call their bluff.

Now, which Dem has the balls to get this rolling?

10. The only way I can see someting like that passing is during the 2 week lame duck session,
and the Pubs don't take the House or the Senate. That would mean enough members would have lost their seats on both sides & including those who are alreadyretiring would have no reason NOT to vote for it.

These folks are sooo damn scared of not staying in office (BOTH Parties) they don't want to do ANYTHING that could be slightly controversial.

That's the reason I keep sending Alan Grayson, in Fl a little $$ every time I can, even though I don't live i Fl. He's from a fairly RED dist. but has the balls to say what he believes anyway. H's the ONLY outspoken Dem we have! I sure hope he wins!!!!

4. ot sure what catagory you put me in, but I support extending the cuts for
Edited on Fri Sep-10-10 11:44 PM by napi21
those making (and you understand that means NET AFTER DEDUCTIONS!) LESS THAN $250,000, ONLY, but IF CONGRESS CAN'T GET THAT PASSED, I SUPPORT LETTING THE WHOLE KIT AND KABOODLE EXPIRE! Most of us didn't get that much of a reduction anyway, and with so many unemployed/under employed now it sure won't matter to them!

The other thing everyone as to realize is that another BiG part of his cuts was the elimiation of the "death tax"! You know, the reason Steinbrenner's estate paid NO TAXES AT ALL!!!! THAT section all by itself mandates that these cuts expire!

8. The polls have been saying this for some time.
But as you said, we can't have the media showing Obama to be on the same side of an issue as the people of America!

12. Can't form opinion....too distracted by 50 fool-"parish" in FLA burning things...
Sadly, THAT is the exact reason why this story is buried and the national media is fixated on the latest auditions for "Idiocracy II : The Real World"...
