Discovery Follows an Investigation into Bookkeeping Problems and Burial Mix-ups at One of Nation's Most Hallowed Sites

(CBS/ AP) Arlington National Cemetery has discovered three people buried in the wrong graves.

The Army said Wednesday that officials opened three burial sites last month and found that the remains in each had been interred in mismarked graves.

The discovery follows an investigation into bookkeeping problems and burial mix-ups at Arlington, one of the nation's most hallowed sites.

At the request of his father, the grave and casket of Marine Pfc. Heath Warner of Canton, Ohio, was opened on Wednesday. That grave was found to hold the remains of Warner, who was killed in Iraq in 2006.

Army spokesman Gary Tallman said he was not aware of any other family requests for exhumations.

1. This isn't meant as a snarky question but a serious one. Is it that hard to match up
the correct bodies with the plots? Is there a system organization flaw at work here or is it something else?

2. In some cemeteries
especially family plots they bury bodies on top of the other. BUT they always have registers that list this. I don't think that is the case here tho. I think the book keeping is totally messed up and according to the records now coming to light has been for years. I wonder how many more people this has happened to. You know with people who died years ago and now have no living relatives, or long distance relatives. This is an out rage and should be given top priority. I think that if they asked they could probably get very competent people to volunteer to straighten out these rosters.
