Dallas police charge 3 officers in alleged beating
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 07:03 PM by cory777
Source: Associated Press

Three Dallas police officers, including one who was fired, will face criminal charges for their alleged roles in the beating of a suspect, which was caught on video by dashboard cameras, the police chief said Wednesday.

Andrew Collins, 28, suffered bruising and blood clots earlier this month after being struck by officers, who hit him about seven times with their fists and batons. The alleged beating lasted about 14 seconds following a chase.

The video, which the department distributed to reporters, shows one of the officers moving the dashboard camera so that it does not film the incident.

"This won't be tolerated," police Chief David Brown said. "This is not indicative of the Dallas Police Department. No one incident defines our character."

1. No one incident.....
If it only were one incident, Chief. Unfortunately, YouTube has lot of 'incidents' and for each one that does get caught by the camera, there are probably a hundred that don't.

2. He's damned lucky they didn't nudge his back wheel on one of the several...
...chances they had to do so when the bike was stationary or moving slowly and drop a red hot exhast pipe across his leg.

I don't condone police beatings, but this bloke most certainly did ask for what he got. He appeared to deliberately attract the attention of the cop right at the beginning, and then played cat and mouse with them for several minutes, stopping and then taking off on multiple occasions.

Twits that panic and run are stupid enough. Dickheads that deliberately bait coppers may not DESERVE everything they get, but they certainly don't deserve any great amount of sympathy either when they receive a set of lumps that would not have been forthcoming without their initial action.

4. Cops moved the video camera and disobeyed orders not to chase.
Click on the link and read the whole story. Even if you think the suspect is an asshole who got what he deserved, the cops should not have disobeyed orders and should not have manipulated the video camera.

Luckily, this did not escalate to worse.

6. Please point to where I supported the cops actions.
One can take a certain satisfaction in seeing a dickhead receive his comeupance without condoning in the slightest, the way in which it was delivered.

5. The recordings of these incidents are invaluable.
No wonder there has been a push to criminalize the filming of our law enforcement officals while they are on duty. :sarcasm:

8. I not sure why he led them on this chase...
As a former motorcycle owner and rider, I saw many chances for him to escape, if that's what he wanted to do...

9. He was not a very good rider...
