Police: Washington state woman made up acid attack story

A 28-year-old woman who said an unknown assailant threw a cup of caustic liquid in her face has admitted her injuries were self-inflicted, Vancouver, Washington, police said Thursday.

Bethany Storro was being interviewed by detectives, and whether she will be charged will be up to prosecutors, police said.

"She is extremely upset," said police Commander Marla Schuman. "She is very remorseful. In many ways it got bigger than she expected."

Police would not speculate on Storro's motives, only saying the August 30 incident did not occur as she described and that there were discrepancies in her account, including wearing sunglasses in the evening.

I feel just as horrible upon this latest turn of events in the case, as I did when it was reported that a random black woman threw acid in her face.

As it turns out, it wasn't a sociopathic black woman committing a random act of aggression against another person. It was actually a mentally ill person harming herself, and lying about it, for attention.

I believe this mental illness is called Munschausen Syndrome.

11. back in '94 Susan Smith accused a black guy of kidnapping her kids

but turned out that Smith actually killed her kids. I remember watching this story on TV before the woman admitted to faking the story. Way to exploit racism (especially at a time of intolerance controversies like Park51 and Shirley Sherrod) as an excuse for their mental issues.
