BANGALORE: General Electric plans to set up a new manufacturing plant at a potential investment of up to $50 million in India, where it also intends to hire 3,000 people for its technology centre here, senior company officials said today.

The President and CEO of GE India, John L Flannery, said the company expects to finalise the location by the end of this year and start construction next year, adding that several of its businesses in India would share this proposed facility.

"... Between $10 million and $50 million," he told reporters when asked about the investment for the plant, which is planned to manufacture products from across its businesses.

The Vice-President and Managing Director of the GE India Technology Centre, Sanjay M Correa, said GE also is keen to hire 3,000 people for its India Technology Centre, which currently has a 5,000-strong workforce, in the next three years.

8. The only way to impact NBC & related channels would be to boycott anyone who advertises on there
Stopping watching them wouldn't have any impact, apart from not being able to watch Keith, Rachel et al.

12. Using tax cuts for investment!
In India! Fuck the GODDAMN TAX CUTS ALREADY. GE and the other warmongering corps all need a minimum corporate tax, say 40%.

13. GE also looks at Brazil
The end of the article notes that GE is also looking at building a tech center in Brazil. Paul Craig Roberts said that we could blame the current "great depression" on the outsourcing of jobs by US companies. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article26279.htm

19. We don't blame the individual workers, rather, the system and the people running the corporations.
Edited on Fri Sep-17-10 11:15 AM by ihavenobias
There's a huge difference. I assume (I apologize in advance if this is incorrect) you're suggesting people who are concerned/angry about outsourcing are mad at the people. That might be true for many on the right, but in my experience that's generally not the case on the left.

Because again, we realize it's about terrible trade policy and greedy execs, not people looking for work in other countries.

20. Thank you.
but, many on the left are also angry at people who are just looking for work. Maybe you haven't seen the threads where a lot of people showed explicit hate towards the H1B workers rather than their own corporations who made this system. In one instance, someone called the workers "scabs". It is extremely discouraging to hear it from a supposedly "progressive" group.

Anyways, as bossy22 said. I think it depends on where the products are going to be sold. If it caters to the Indian market, its only fair that they want to place the factory in India.

short of destruction and mayhem(for right now at least), anything else we could do to counter this that hasn't already failed several times?

21. Restore America Folks????
Bet you won't hear a peep out of the teabaggers and repugs about this. How can we expect any President, Democrat or Republican, to create new jobs when corporations are allowed to send manufacturing overseas. I live in Georgia, where we use to be one of the largest manufacturers of cotton products. Now travel to Macon, Griffin, Thomasten and West Point/La Grange and you will see HUGE (and I mean huge) shut down plants. You can't create new jobs out of thin air. The US is giving economic aid to Pakistan to bolster carpet manufacturing there. Meanwhile, up in Northern Georgia, the major US carpet makers are cutting back on production and laying our workers off. How about restoring America's industrial/manufactering structure and restoring the middle class.
