Boxer at 50% Over Fiorina in California
Source: Public Policy Polling

California is the rare state that appears to have no enthusiasm gap. Compared to their GOP counterparts, Democrats in the Golden State are just as enthused about voting as they were in 2008. In that environment, Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer is no less endangered for re-election than she was in PPP’s last survey of registered voters in July. She led Carly Fiorina by a 49-40 margin then, and now tops her, 50-42, in PPP’s first survey of likely California voters.

3. Same here. I like her alot.
There are few candidates that I think are really good for the country (Boxer, Feingold, Grayson) and I would hate for any of them to be replaced

2. The polling showing Boxer in the lead may prompt the
Fiorina campaign to get desperate.

Boxer is a tough customer. And the people who support her, including many non-Californians, see no reason whatsoever why she should be replaced at all, nevermind by a corporate hack like Fiorina.

Go, Barbara!

6. What was the turning point? That commercial that reminded everyone who Carly Fiorina really is...
Edited on Tue Sep-21-10 06:38 AM by Liberal_Stalwart71
The fact that she thought that she could run a giant company into the ground, lay off workers, reap a nice golden parachute, and the people of California would forgive her is...well...like most Republicans...the height of ARROGANCE!!!!

One of my father's best friends worked for HP for many years. He was one of thousands layed off due to Fiorina. Luckily for him, he finally found a job, but was forced to move to another city to take it.

Thanks, Carly!

Now, go back into the hole you crawled out of and do something with that hair. It's like...soooo 1980's!!!! LOL!!!!

24. That commercial is gold. Exposes Fiorina as smug, arrogant,
disdainful of her HP employees, and proud of it.

Rule #1 of politics - Don't embark on a political campaign if you have nasty, festering skeletons in your closet.

Bye, bye Carly. It's been real.

37. Carly helped destroy HP
The godfather of silicon valley, with its valued employees culture and high quality leading edge products are only a memory

They now make crappy products and treat their remaining employees poorly

I just bought a new Brother laser printer - 10 years ago there would have been no question about buying an HP

7. I never doubted this one, but......
I've seen Fiorina on a few TV clips. She rubbed me the wrong way before she was even identified.

Boxer at least comes across as pleasant. I know it's not a factor that should be heavily weighed, but it is.

All Carly's money, and all her ad men, couldn't put Carly in the Senate, even then...............

17. We have a similar race for Marcy Kaptur's congressional seat in Ohio.
I haven't seen any polls, but the RW media make it sound like Rich Iott is giving Kaptur her first close race since she beat former local TV anchor Frank Venner in 1984.

Iott's campaign reminds me of Firoina's. Iott was in charge of the Foodtown chain of grocery stores in NW Ohio, handed to him from his father. He sold out to another chain and the Foodtown stores were closed, throwing several thousand people out of work. Iott's been campaigning as this job creator and attacking Kaptur's positions on NAFTA, the federal stimulus and other policies. How anyone with Iott's resume can campaign as a job-creator is beyond me.

But then again, so is John Kasich and he's leading incumbent Ted Strickland by double digits in the race for Ohio governor. As a congressman, Kasich never saw a free trade agreement he didn't like. His solution to everything is tax cuts, free trade and deregulation. After whoring himself to Wall Street while in Congress, he latched on to a cushy job with Lehman Bros. You know the rest of that story.

And again, there's Rob Portman, who was just like Kasich while serving in Congress. Plus, he was Bush's USTR and Office of Management and Budget director. With a resume like that, he should be going down in flames in the polls, but he's holding a strong lead over Lt. Governor Lee Fisher in the race for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by George Voinovich.

Why? Have voters' memories gotten so bad that they cannot remember what got us into this economic mess and who supported the policies that caused it?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't take anything for granted. It's going to be work keeping the Bushies out of power in spite of their resumes.

At the end of the day, California is a liberal state even if they have an unhealthy fascination with actors. I was shocked to hear Boxer was really in any kind of trouble.

22. The even more recent Fox News poll has Boxer up by 1.
Of course, the fact that Fox News has Boxer up by anything is noteworthy. But while Fox is indisputably a conservative source, Public Policy Polling is a Democratic polling firm, so I imagine it's as optimistic as possible. All told, Calif. is a real tossup, which says more about anti-incumbent anger this year than it does anything else.

23. I kept trying to tell everyone
Californians don't pay attention to political races until the end of summer.

The early polls showing Whitless and Fearino leading were meaningless.

By the time late October rolls around, I expect to see polls showing double digit leads for both Brown and Boxer.
