Murkowski May Lose U.S. Senate Energy Panel Post Over Write-In Candidacy
By James Rowley - Sep 21, 2010 2:57 PM CT

Republicans may strip Senator Lisa Murkowski of her post as the party’s ranking member on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee as a result of her decision to seek re-election as a write-in candidate, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said today.

The Senate Republican caucus will meet tomorrow to determine “whether or not it’s appropriate for her, under the circumstances, to continue as ranking member” on the committee, McConnell, of Kentucky, told reporters.

Murkowski, of Alaska, declared her write-in candidacy on Sept. 18 after she was defeated in her state’s Republican Senate primary last month. Murkowski, who was seeking nomination to a second full term, lost to Joe Miller, a lawyer from Fairbanks and a former U.S. magistrate judge.

Senator John Cornyn of Texas, head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said stripping Murkowski of her ranking committee post is “the appropriate thing to do” because “when you choose not to accept the judgment of the primary voters and you run as a write-in and not be the nominee, then it has consequences.”

1. One thing I admire about the Republicans.
Is that they don't fuck around. Toe the line or you're gone. Lieberman should have been broken, Ben Nelson should have been broken. And so on and so forth. If you want a prestigious post, you will act in favor of the party's position. How much more could we have accomplished with some threats and arm twisting?

4. We could take a lesson from them. The fact that Lieberman
still has whatever excuse he has for balls shows that we still bring cap guns to a knife fight, and then look startled and surprised when we get the shit cut out of us.

2. Like it matters
She would be out anyway. If she wins and she caucuses with the Dem's she will get a plum assignment. It's actually a win win for her.
