Summers Expected to Leave White House After Election
Edited on Tue Sep-21-10 04:09 PM by laughingliberal
Source: Bloomberg

White House officials expect Lawrence Summers to leave his job as the president’s National Economic Council director after November’s congressional elections, according to three people familiar with the matter.

His departure would leave Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner as the only member of President Barack Obama’s original top-tier economic team. Summers, 55, and the president have discussed his future plans, according to one person.

Administration officials are weighing whether to put a prominent corporate executive in the NEC director’s job to counter criticism that the administration is anti-business, one person familiar with White House discussions said. White House aides are also eager to name a woman to serve in a high-level position, two people said. They also are concerned about finding someone with Summers’ experience and stature, one person said.

2. Agreed. But watch Dimon be named his replacement.
Or maybe we'll be lucky and Snow will come back in that position.

maybe all the screaming for economic sanity has finally penetrated the Oval Office. Paul Volker is hanging around not doing much else...

19. Paul Volker is a possibility.
He's been warming up in the bull pen, not hanging around doing nothing much. That would certainly give the Democrats a boost in the November election.

27. Not if it came after the election, as per the article.
even the unofficial word passed as to that choice would likely be uninspiring, given how often these rumors of good choices have turned into realities of just another well connected guy from the right company.

I would feel so much better about the Democrats holding the Presidency if we could oust the Goldman-Sachs/Morgan-Stanley/Monsanto parasites that are currently entrenched within the structure.

anti-business. -So they can coerce the administration into placing thier people into positions that benefit them. I hope the White House has learned that going the extra mile to placate the right has gotten the administration nowhere so far, and that they think really hard about placing one of these corporate criminals (especially bankers) in such a position.

I'm tired of the administration worrying about criticism from the right. The right has never supported him and will never will no matter what he does to placate them. And any deals that are made will more than likely be promptly reneged upon.

23. I don't think they've learned, at all.
This suggests they're going further right:

Administration officials are weighing whether to put a prominent corporate executive in the NEC director’s job to counter criticism that the administration is anti-business, one person familiar with White House discussions said.

Their lackluster results for middle and working class Americans seem not to have impressed them at all. They're in a dither because 'bidness' isn't happy with them.
