Senate Rejects Resolution To Overturn Union Organizing Rule At Airlines, Railroads
Source: Associated Press

Senate Republicans have failed in their bid to overturn a new rule making it easier for unions to organize workers in the airline and railroad industries.

The Senate voted 56-43 against a GOP resolution that would have prevented the Obama administration from enforcing the rule.

The new rule approved by the National Mediation Board in May allows employees to unionize if a majority of those voting support the union. The old rule required a majority of all workers to favor union representation. That meant workers choosing not to vote were treated as "no" votes.

3. Excellent!
It makes everyone equal. No votes have to get off their asses too. People who stay home should be counted as indifferent.

4. Indifferent or not, they will not be counted as 'no' votes.
It's easy to imagine someone being unwilling to vote 'yes' and incur the wrath of his immediate supervisors - and all they have to do is convince him to not vote to add to their side. Now, even if he is intimidated into not voting, it does not count as a vote against.

A definite improvement.

7. Tears in my eyes...people have worked hard to get rid of this

I was part of the CWA American Airline Union vote in 1997 ...these indifferent people doomed us. We had 60 percent cards signed then the vote had 42 percent ..it hurt..it hurt really bad.

now time to stop grief and now organize

9. Why would anyone in the working class vote for a re pub?
I don't understand how anyone could vote for a bunch who wants to kill social security, cut wages, kill medicare, kill unions, send jobs overseas, gut pensions, and deny the unemployed unemployment insurance among others.

12. If the filthy slimy republicans are for it-You KNOW it will only help the rich & their corporations.
The same goes if the republicans are against it - And you KNOW just as well it will NOT benefit the rich & their corporations.

14. Yes!
...the so called "old" rule was ridiculous!

At least now, if employees do or do not (idiots...opps...that just slipped out) want to be union, they have the option of voting yes or no (idiots...opps again!)
