AP president: Need to curb unlicensed use of news
Source: Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Associated Press President and CEO Tom Curley says an enforcement mechanism needs to be created to help curb unlicensed used of news on the Internet.

Curley made the remarks Thursday during a speech in Nashville to a training program run by Associated Press Managing Editors.

Curley says the AP has been tracking websites engaged in content "scraping," and planned to name 18 of them at an industry meeting on Friday.

5. Associated Press Is A Cooperative Business Model
It's interesting to me that AP succeeded with their cooperative business model long enough to take down their only domestic competition, United Press International, which had a commercial business model. Now, they are crying about not completely dominating the news market and being able to charge clients whatever they want.

Sorry AP. Later.

10. "Facts" cannot be Copyrighted.
Is AP admitting that their reporting is propaganda rather than fact?

12. That's true, but descriptions of the facts are protected under the
copyright laws. That's the essential difference. There's a simple solution, if this strategy succeeds. Simply rewrite a news account in your own words and link to the source. It takes a bit longer, but that's what we all may have to start doing eventually.

15. It is more like FOX. News does not have to be truthful except now
AP is saying it does not have to be factual.

13. What hypocrites..
Almost every site that publishes AP news has a toolbar of some kind filled with 'sharing' options.. facebook, digg, blogger, slashdot, del.icio.us, share via email, share via IM.. even this story!.
