Pelosi says tax cut vote possible before election
Source: AP

By STEPHEN OHLEMACHER

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn't ruling out a vote to extend soon-to-expire tax cuts before lawmakers go home to campaign in the next week, even though Senate Democrats have abandoned plans to vote before the Nov. 2 election.

President Barack Obama has been pushing for a vote by year's end to extend middle-class tax cuts. But House Democrats — much like Senate Democrats — are divided over whether to vote on the measure before the election. Either way, Pelosi says the goal is to send the House home by the end of this month.

The most sweeping tax cuts in a generation, enacted in 2001 and 2003, are due to expire in January. Republicans want to extend all the tax cuts. Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress want to extend them for individuals making less than $200,000 and married couples making less than $250,000.

1. Pelosi doing the heavy lifting yet again
I think we'd be wholly fucked without her, legislatively and politically.

4. If the House does this with enough time left, the Senate will be hard-pressed to take it up, too.

14. President Barack Obama has been pushing for a vote
Really? Pushing? With what? A feather?

The Prez and leader of the party "pushes" and this is what we get?

PUSH HARDER. Because the Senate and half the House apparently don't care what you're pushing Mr President.

16. I have a question....
How many Senators and Reps will have to pay higher taxes if the Bush tax cuts expire? Hands?

When is someone gonna ask that question on the TV machine?

17. The people who would ask that question on the TV machine are also in that
higher bracket, hence the absence of the question.

18. I'm guessing she's still
receiving scathing emails (I sent one yesterday) of Dems registering their disgust. I asked her straight out why I should vote for them when they wont take this vote up for me. I think they miscalculated how important this issue is to those of us in the middle class. They can take up the tax cuts for the wealthy after the election (or let them expire which is what I wish).

19. Disgust doesn't even begin to cover it. Sidestepping this vote before November is
like removing an anvil from the R's necks and tying them to our own. Postponing this makes it look like Dems are trying to appease rich people who've contributed to their campaigns at the expense of the country: selfish, greedy, and short-sighted.

20. tax vote
that js just too fair why would we want to keep tax cuts for over 200000 when most of the country is struggling for a roof over our heads. since bush started these cuts look what happened the super rich are richer. i have two homeless kids living in my apartment so they dont have to stay in a shelter with the thousands of others. cuts dont create jobs they should tax the shit out of these greedy assholes and start a ceta like they did in the seventies and put people back to work.
