Nine shot, one killed at house party in Boyle Heights

Nine people were shot and a 22-year-old man was killed at a “house party” in Boyle Heights early Saturday, according to police.

An additional person was stabbed, police said, during a melee that broke out shortly after 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of Los Palos Street.

Most of the gunfire victims managed to get to area hospitals on their own or with the help of others, said LAPD Capt. Anita Ortega.

“I’ve never seen so many aggravated assaults in one scene,” Ortega said Saturday. “We have no indication that this was a gang site, only that it was a house party open to everyone with a fee of $10 and a lot of beer.”

the problem I see with these kinds of "open parties" is just that...its an "open party"..with no way of vetting those who attend.

..it's a predominantly poor area.. lots of families trying to make ends meet.. lots of gangs, too.. Violence is unfortunately an integral part of life there..
I'm betting the kind of party you're remembering is not quite like one you might find in BH.. Philosophy is for the man with a full belly, as they say..
