In Kentucky race, Rand Paul and Jack Conway divided on strategy
Source: Washington Post

"They say a billion seconds ago, my parents were children, a billion minutes ago, Jesus was alive, a billion hours ago was the Stone Age, but a billion dollars ago, at the rate the federal government is spending, was six minutes ago," Paul declared on stage, to hushed tones from the crowd.

Last month, in an interview with the Associated Press, he played down the importance of drug abuse in the state, saying it was "not a pressing issue" compared with national concerns such as federal spending. He later said drug abuse programs should be funded at the state level, not by the federal government, but emphasized he believes it is a major issue.

Enter Conway. In the eastern part of this state, abuse of prescription drugs, marijuana and methamphetamines is a rampant problem. The region's congressman, Rep. Harold Rogers (R), has long sought and won federal funding for drug rehabilitation and law enforcement programs to combat the abuse.

To highlight Paul's view, Conway's campaign has organized roundtables and speeches in which the Democrat specifically talks about the state's drug problem and how it can be fought. "He doesn't understand Kentucky," Conway says of Paul on the stump.

1. Maybe Paul thinks he can only win if the voters in KY
Show up at the polls in an Oxycontin haze.

It's not a good sign when your campaign depends heavily on the "hillbilly heroin" vote.

2. As an old track degenerate, I see *Kentucky Race* in the header and I'm thinking horses.
Takes a second or two to refocus on horse's asses...

4. Someone I know was approached by Rand Paul the other day in Lebanon, KY
it was during the Ham Days festival (or something like that)

This guy is hardly a conservative but Rand approached him because he was wearing a sportjacket and a hat (surprised he wasn't wearing a leather jacket with a skull on it or wearing a kilt or something...he's been known to dress in very interesting ways in the past)

Rands says to him along the lines of, "You look like the type of conservative we're looking for to vote for us this election."

The response back to Rand might as well have been "I like to eat dead babies" because the look on Rand's face when this guy told him "I choose to no longer participate in politics. I trust in no one" you'd have thought he kicked Rand right in the gut. Left him breathless and confused.

5. We're getting tired of authoritarian Drug Warriors in this state.
Candidates who drape themselves in fat sheriffs and scowling KSP officers don't win many points with a lot people.
