Dream Act defeat upsets unionists
Source: Workday Minnesota

The Dream Act would let undocumented youth who came to the U.S. as children before entering high school seek legal “green card” status if they went to college or served in the military for two years. Dumping it particularly upset SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Eliseo Medina, a longtime campaigner for immigrant workers’ rights.

“Republican senators squashed the dreams of thousands of our best and brightest youth who asked for nothing more than to make our nation more secure, more prosperous, and more just,” Medina, the son of immigrants, said. “Instead of standing up for a smart bill that would make America stronger, the GOP chose more cynicism, more partisan rancor, and more politics.

"It is astonishing that not one single Republican,” including past supporters “was willing to stand up to the Tea Party bullies and other extremists in their party.
It is outrageous that they put politics ahead of the dreams of these deserving youth and ahead of the urgent need to insert sanity into a broken immigration system,” he added.

AFT President Randi Weingarten was also upset that the Senate dumped the Dream Act. Her union represents thousands of college teachers and staffers.

2. And through all this they're still predicted to win enough seats...
To have Democrats lose the House/Senate.

I just don't get people.

3. It shouldn't.
I think the Dream Act is a fraud.

There isn't any age limit in the House version and it is 35 years old in the Senate version.

Also, even if a person lies about their status and gets caught, they cannot be deported.

So, this is only superficially about 'young' people ... it really is a bill to give amnesty/legal status to folks who broke into our country to undercut our standard of living by being exploited by greedy employers.
