Obama says U.S. not in a jobless recovery
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama said on Monday the United States must accelerate job growth, but he said the country was not experiencing a "jobless recovery" as it pulled out of a recession.

"We've seen eight months in a row of private-sector job growth. We're actually seeing more job growth so far in this recovery than we did in the last recovery that we had back in 2001," Obama said during an interview on NBC television.

"The problem is we just lost so many jobs because of the crisis that we've got a much bigger hole to fill, and that means we're going to have to accelerate job growth and we've got to do everything we can to focus on that."

8. Job creation still isn't keeping up with population growth, though
We need 160,000 jobs per month to just break even. We haven't seen that yet, even under Obama.

10. Be sure to include "private sector" when describing those jobs.
Bush had more jobs overall in 8 years, but most of those were in government or as government contractors. That kept the unemployment rate relatively low. But private sector growth is a better measure of the true state of the economy, and it is true that Obama has created more private-sector jobs in two years than Bush created in 8.

that they plan on doing more in the future. The fact that he's hyping some bogus statistic as proof of economic recovery gives me no comfort.

This anemic growth is what he's touting, btw:

18. ""We've seen eight months in a row of private-sector job growth"
Obama must not have read this SF Gate article:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2010/09/21/national/w080556D18.DTL&feed=rss.news

"Overall, the economy lost a net total of 54,000 positions last month and the unemployment rate ticked up to 9.6 percent from 9.5 percent. Private employers added a net total of only 67,000 jobs."

Or read the Bureau of Labor Statistics Report on Sep 21:

that shows jobs were LOST from July to August of this year.
